You are right Paul - she should have a name called Aldi... Having thought on it...to incorporate the Aldi name, meet "Viv" ...and her husband up in the branches is named "Garib". So its Mrs Viv Aldi and Mr Garib Aldi. Ok, its a stretch...but who cares!! ha,ha!!! Just a little video (abeit crap quality) - but I got proof that material is most definitely being brought in. More frequent visits happening today for sure.

Brilliant GBH, I am glad she is still bringing material in for you! Doesn't surprise me about the cameras being sold out to be honest, I was talking to owners of Gardenature yesterday on the phone and she was saying they are getting more orders than they normally do at Christmas and things, I think people are turning to nature over covid19!

Good luck with the nest GBH. I have an aldi or Lidl camera in my Gt Tit Box but quality very bad. My Gt tit left another box after building her nest.Better camera in that one but at least she is laying now but covers them so well it's impossible to know how many.

Hi Hardy, oh best of luck with the GT - its good she moved to the box with the better camera!! When she does reveal her eggs you'll get some great shots. I find the camera quality actually very good on this old set up from Aldi....the images are really clear when viewing the screen. But because I've to record the images from the TV screen onto my mobile phone, it doesn't really translate properly as my phone camera doesn't have a slow shutter speed option to accommodate the TV screen lines. So it looks dreadful! Of course, my bird didn't choose my boxes with the digital set up! Doh!!! Anyway, I'm definitely not complaining and thanks for the well wishes, as I've some really great news!!! "Viv" has been building all day and has really done some great work on the nest. She has decided to come in and roost for the 1st time! So all looking very promising indeed!!! Hopefully we'll be moving onto the next stage from tomorrow I imagine, with the construction of the nest cup etc. Here is a little video: And a picture too:

Viv came in to roost again last night quite early. I also got to see the pair copulate on the branches above the box this morning - thats a first for me EVER!!! Day 8 - the nest so far - the cup is more defined - another few days before it is finished perhaps? There is the feather from yesterday I think?
13:40 - edited to say she's bringing small bits of fluffy stuff in now. I've been watching her through the binoculars. So we've moved onto the next phase. It was in this same Aldi box that I came close to a nest with the Bluetits in 2013. But this officially now marks the furthest that this box (and any of my bird boxes) ever got with a nest before. Had the Aldi box up since 2012, and got nothing that year, came close in 2013, then absolutely nothing since - so including 2012 thats 9 years I'm waiting for something to happen!!!

Hi all... Well Day 9 and its still a bit of a mess in there, but building is ongoing:
You can kind of see the lining of greyish cat hair that she has been bringing in...she hasn't gone near my sheeps wool yet. Speaking of cat hair.... after 6 weeks or so of caring for Spooky, she has become a healthy, strong, well socialised cat...but following a green finch chick massacre yesterday evening which was horrifying to watch, we have decided to re-home her. Can't be dealing with that on a permanent basis folks. I'm just not cut out for it and not prepared to excuse it. That along with the fact that we can't have her in the house due to allergies, and that we won't know what to do when winter sets in as it will be cruel to have her out in the cold full time, its just not working out. We tried our best - but the birds need to be protected - I can't abide by this mindless unnecessary killing. I can't standby and watch it happen....she's like a ticking time bomb. My heart is truly broken to let her go - honestly, she is a little sweet heart - I just wish she didn't have this side to her personality. It goes against EVERYTHING I believe in and have worked towards in this new house. We have found a very good home for her, with some people we know who are very experienced cat owners. They have agreed to take her, and they already have four cats, and I'm comforted that she will be well taken care of by people who truly love cats. So, if they don't decide to back out.....she will be leaving later on today once I can get a cat carrier to transport her. There will be tears!!! True meaning of "Love/Hate".

Oh GBH I feel for you and at the same time know exactly what you’re going through.
Almost did the same ourselves. The grey cat we had (the one I saw on camera putting her big grey furry paw through the nest box opening) constantly killed birds and my son was also allergic to cats. We tried several times to rehome her, no success, used to get so mad at her, that God forgive me, I thought many times of putting her in the car and going for a long drive down the country somewhere, and just let her out. I never did, she was with us for 18 years, I was always kind to her, but she’s the one cat I never really loved and only wished I could have rehomed her, when I did.
so it’s the kindest thing to do all round, for you, the birds and her
