I think I'm going to give up on this....upped the buffer from 2mb to 14mb and then changed the bitrate up to 4000. Perhaps that was too high as it just crashed the programme. Time to call it a day I think. I'm better than I was this morning though...at least I know my RTSP link is correct and the YouTube is working fine, if I can just get it to actually stream at an acceptable level. Just can't work out why the image is so terribly crap. I didn't think my camera was a bad one??? What are other people using? Thanks Amanda for the assistance... I'll be at it again tomorrow I'm sure. It gives you a bit of mental stimulation during this lockdown I bet it will bug you! I am doing it from my camera’s rather than my NVR. I might see if I can do it from there. I don’t know if mine will be a bit different. I have no idea how it works with the BNC connectors. All my cameras are IP cameras. I have a Hilook NVR (it’s a rebadged Hikvision) I have hikvision cameras or Hi3516 which are the POE IP bird box cameras.

Thanks...yes, I think I'm at the end of the road with it.
1. I don't have any IP cameras - they are just standard birdbox cameras, but my DVR is Network enabled, so I was able to make the OBS software 'talk' to my DVR using the camera channels unique IP address - it does throw up an image - just really bad one!! It nearly got good for a second, then it was gone? This is the bit I don't understand. 2.Even though the images looks great on my monitor, I think the resolution is too low in the Sony 700TL Effio to live stream. The optimum is 1080P and all I can get is up to 960*576 (WD1) on Channel 1 using this camera.
Is this the case though??? Surely other people have used these little guys to live stream their footage?
I have fast broadband, so I can't imagine that could be the issue.
So, thats that!!!...unless someone else can spot anything obvious from my posts? Maybe a setting that I don't have switched on or something?
Like all these things...I bet its something REALLY simple.
I'm at a loss for now anyway.

Sounds like you have a great set up there Amanda. Out of interest what is the cost of POE IP's of the size for bird boxes and the cabling? I nearly changed last year but thought better of it as I had about 6 cameras, now I have eleven. Still tempted though but my other half would kill me if she knew how much I spent on this hobby. Though she does share the videos with many on her on-line customers!
My furthest distance is around 30 metres.
If I do mine from my DVR, I take it it would show my 16 channels?

I use these cameras: Bird box camera POE IP You can get them on SpycameraCCTV too
There is a more expensive camera that has a POE switch and cabling. I use UTP Ethernet cable UTP cable
RJ45 plugs & crimping tool If all your wires come in to one place, and you have more than 1 camera, get a POE switch POE Switch or you can use an NVR with the powered ports at the back I have just added bit by bit as I have build more boxes or hedgehog houses. I must admit, I am at full capacity, I don’t need any more bird boxes or hedgehog houses The good thing about POE IP cameras is that you don’t need to have power near to the camera. The Ethernet cable powers the camera. There is a little power port on the bird box cameras that you plug the LED light in to, so it’s one cable, which is great. You can run a real good length of cable 100 metres (328 feet) I hope that helps

Can I ask GBH. Can you "choose" the channel the DVR shows live?

Can I ask GBH. Can you "choose" the channel the DVR shows live? Yes,you can... Once you have your RTSP link format correct, then you can select/change your channel or 'ID'. For example, the HiVision RTSP URL combination is: rtsp://DVRlogon:password@camera iP address/Streaming/Channel/102 So, the 102 = channel 1, substream 2. If I wanted to select a different channel, say Camera 4...I would type 402 at the end. I believe all DVRs have their own specific rtsp URL combinations...can usually be found online. But they all follow a similar format.

Just to be sure, I have just tried this out.
Without switching off the live stream, by simply changing the channel number at the end of the URL in your streaming software (I'm using OBS Studio) and it works immediately!!
Even during the live stream...
The cameras switched to camera 2 seamlessly.
And knowing this now....I bet there is a way to have the live stream set up that it can switch between cameras intermittently too.
That's my next project!!!!

Benn...Have a look at my live stream now...just to test it out, I've managed to add all four cameras to my stream.
Only one channel will have the audio of course! So, selecting channels deffo can be done!
Still want to figure out how to have it switching intermittently between cameras though...just to see if OBS studio has that functionality....as I've nothing better to do!!! lol!!!

Hey brilliant.....well done yahoo_clap That is a better way of doing it, all of them at the same time I will give this a go this evening, I’m not able to concentrate during the day! If you have an Alexa with a screen, you can ask your camera’s to work it the same principle using the rtsp address on sub stream but with no audio. If you google monoclecam, you can get on the portal...... there is your new project well done again yahoo_clap

Don't have an Alexa!!! Haven't gone down the smart speaker route yet.
Anyway, happy enough with this set up for now...I've forwarded the link to my family. They're delighted with it...
Of course, I'm not keen about having the laptop on all day for this to work, but sure, I'll leave it on for today. When things start getting more exciting, I'll switch it on again then.
Edited to say: Do you hear all that sawing and sanding going on in the background....thats himself building Spooky a very fancy cat house. lol!! Its very swanky indeed. Lucky cat!!!!

I have managed to get my blue tit and robin up simultaneously. Not sure if its the best way that I used as had to reduce the size of pictures to get it on the OBS screen. I take it we have to have the OBS running all the time? Whereas we can come out of youtube and it still runs live?

I’m not sure how to keep the same url.....does anyone else know? I thought I had set channels for each separate box and also scenes.....but I’m not sure now I will have to have a read of the forums or even instructions! Click here: Tree and garage box

I take it we have to have the OBS running all the time? Whereas we can come out of youtube and it still runs live? Hi Benn, sorry just checking back in now. I see you've sorted the dual screen streaming...brilliant. Yes, thats exactly what I did. On OBS once the image appears in the studio mode screen then you just stretch or minimise the image so its fits in the viewing box. It seems you can add as many channels as you like but they don't all fit, so you've to squash them in to fit. Yes, I believe we have to have to computor/laptop on, in order to have the OBS software running all the time as thats the driver to keep the images streaming. Thats a bummer. Yesterday, when I heard my laptop whirring very loud I decided to close my laptop, and that cut the streaming then of course.

Lovely videos Amanda....brilliant to have each camera sorted!!!
If you want to add all your channels on the one YouTube stream, all you have to do is go into OBS Studio and using the 'Source' button, just press the '+' to add another channel then enter your RTSP URL with the new channel ID you want added....as you add each channel, after about a min or so, the new channel then appears in the viewing screen along with your original channel.
You just have to adjust them to make them all fit nicely in the one screen then.
Actually, as you add these channels, they automatically update on your live stream which is already running on YouTube...if anyone is watching your stream on YouTube, they will suddenly see the second or subsequent screen appear...

Ahhhhhh......got it! I only need the 1 YouTube url and then just change the camera’s in the source / scenes. Brill, that’s my task for this evening! I have a mini pc, about the size of 4 credit cards that runs a script for showing my bird box feeds on my Alexa’s, this runs all the time, so I might put it on there, it’s not that powerful, so it may struggle. I don’t usually have computers running 24/7 Thanks for that information, it’s solved my head scratching problem
