Hello Great to see this forum. Been away a few years as moved house, but boxes up and running again now. Well we have just checked our camera and have 2 boxes with nesting material. One looks really good & is clearly active, but one is, although full of material, also absolutely full of poo. I’ve never seen this before, has anyone got any idea why this would be? A rival messing it (literally) up? A nest started ad then being used as a roost? Never seen it before as nests are usually pretty clean... thanks!! Good luck with all your nesters Michelle

back Michelle. The messy nest box is something I've never seen either. Maybe a male taking over the box to roost in?

Welcome Michelle - a few years back I had a similar experience in my Aldi box. The one time I came close to having a nest built at my old house, they had started building in an extremely messy box.
But I never found out what the outcome of having such a messy box was as in my ignorance, and with the excitement of seeing a nest being built I interfered with the box location, as I thought it was too close to my back door.
I moved it over a few metres, but they never came back. I learned a valuable lesson that year too and paid for it seems every year since....they never had any interest at all!!!
Anyway, best of luck.

Hi Michelle, could the material be old from a previous year and you’ve had a messy male rooster over winter leaving all his mess about, or do you know this is a new nest? Only asking because I still have a messy rooster and though I had a couple start to bring in material the rooster still continues to come every night and I am worried he is putting off my possible tenants for this year. Hope yours gets sorted and you at least get one nest. Sue
