Lovely Paul, I have had to do some modifications to one of mine as a cat has managed to get in, will see tonight if it was successful. Definitely not many hogs at the moment here though

That is lovely Paul, thanks for the clip. Shame about a cat getting in to your feeder Karen - hopefully your alterations will work to stop it happening again.

Here's one of our regulars going back to its hog house, This hog house is the most private of them all, Its down an unused entry way and the hog needs to go through two gates to get to it. This is how our hogs access the garden I have double gates at the bottom of the garden and a single one at bottom aswell. Its amazing how they can get through such small gaps but they do no problem big or small hogs anyway here is the video and i'll attach some pictures of the house so you get a better idea of its privacy its been sleeping in here for hmm god knows now 2 months maybe longer so it never leaves our garden which is a good thing no harm will come to it! Video Pictures of where the hog house is

You not getting any visits at the moment Karen? Hi Paul, no not much at all this last week, really need to get some spikes semi moist as that is their favourite. So perhaps its in protest!

Actually could be Karen, The semi moist as a strong smell aswell. So I am guessing they will be able to smell it because they do have a great sense of smell!

Paul for the video clip (which I saw first on Twitter) but the 2 photos of where the hog house is are super - very secluded & safe, so not surprising that your hog is more or less a permanent resident. Good luck Karen when you get some spikes semi moist that your hogs will come back.

Put some hay next to our regulars box down the entry way yesterday while it was sleeping, It had a good check out of it lastnight but didn't take any, I guess its bedding its fresh enough. The box does have alot of dead leaves at front of it which blow up the entry during last winter so don't know if its been using them but its got hay now aswell for when it wants new bedding It came back to its box at 6:13am to settle for the day.

Paul, I hope this particular hog knows how lucky he is having you to spoil him, (thinking ahead in case he does decide to change his bedding!)

My local hedgehog rescue have put me on the list for suitable release garden, Meaning i'll be able to go and pick up hogs that need a garden to be set free again in after they're better.
Karen you may want to contact your local hog rescue and do something like this
The 3 main things they look for is
1, you already have hogs visiting showing they're in the area. 2, you supply food and water daily for them. 3, you have hog houses in the garden.
Hopefully this way hogs that don't get returned to the location they did come from have a better chance of life with regular food and hog houses!
They said it probably wont be until next year now because its rare they let the hogs back over autumn but I am looking forward to that the more hogs you can help the better for the numbers.

Wow Paul How lovely for you to take in hogs who need rehoming. They will be queueing up🤣🤣 I seem to be getting one for the last week or so who seems to have settled down to a routine. Comes by about 10.30_11 ish has a snack then pops in house for a nap. Out again for a snack then back for a nap then seems to have a good mouch around the garden and then moves on. Hubby has built a brick house for them on the other side of the garden but not sure if it's far enough away. Any idea if this self anointing thing they do shows up as white stripes on the night cameras? Mine had one stripe one night and had 2 last night?

Wonderful news Paul, even though it won't happen until next year.

Sammi, If you are only using the hog houses for sleeping now and not putting food inside, Pack them with hay from floor to roof truly packed with hay and put your hand through the hay to make a little passage for the hog. When i started packing my houses with hay was when they start making it there home not just for napping so try that and your little visitor might set up home!
Diane, I am really pleased about it, They did say could be some this year but mainly be next year. So still hope might get the odd 1 or 2 this year, I'll keep everyone posted of course.

I've been reading up about hibernating Paul and I've just been reading that very same thing The feeding station is totally separate now and has been since the first couple of nights. I moved the feeding station away from the house too as I read they don't like the food too close? I think I'll take out the bird box camera and pack it like you suggest as the camera will be pretty useless when it's full of hay. I have today put a load of hay packed into a plant pot right next to the house to give him the hint. Last night the trail cam picked up another non striped one feeding while the other napped. I was thinking for a while that the napper had scared any others off

Our new hedgehogs got abit of ringworm on its neck, Talked to a rescue who confirmed it but said its nothing to worry about apparently due to me feeding it a good nourishment will help his immune system keep that in check they said. Heres it is you can see the patch of ringworm on its neck, I mean it makes it easier for me to know its him / her!

the poor little thing having ringworm, good job you recognised what it was as I wouldn't have a clue. Nice to know that because of your care for it now, its immune system will keep it under control - will it go away in time do you know?

I didn't know myself Diane, I just sent the videos into the rescue and they confirmed. If they said he needed seeing I would of took him down just told me to keep an eye on him, If he starts loosing spikes and things take him to a rescue. But hopefully he should be fine I don't know if it will clear up on its own but at this stage its nothing to worry about.

Paul, I like the name someone you know asked for this particular hog to be named Ringo - appropriate for where you live too in Liverpool! Did any of your relatives go to The Cavern when it was in full swing with The Beatles?

Thats a great idea Paul, I will certainly be in touch with them and let them know. Right now my garden is very quiet for hogs, food hasnt been touched, only the mice seem to be around this has happened before so I am not too worried but I just miss them, I have ordered some spikes semi moist so its here when they come, my local tesco dont stock the kitten biscuits which I have heard so much about which is super annoying as they are so cheap! Hopefully they will be back soon eating me out of house and home

Little Ringo update - His ringworm scab appears to be falling off, Hedgehog rescue said this is great news because it means new healthy skin is growing under it and pushing it off! Looks like it will be fine thank god, Hes also started sleeping in one of the hog houses in the garden he is fast asleep in the hay as we speak! Here's a little picture of him at 6:28am in the feeder before going to sleep in the hog house near the feeder. As you can see from the picture the scab is more on show meaning its falling off! Diane, I had "Ringo" in mind myself, When I seen a few people suggesting it on twitter I knew it had to be haha I am guessing some of my family did, Especially my little nan she is a big fan! Karen, The tesco kitten biscuits are loved here, I always stock up on them now I have 10 boxes at the moment the hogs at moment use a box every few days! Here's a picture of the feeder at moment, I am just refilling it for tonight! Let me know what your rescue says about the garden idea, Mine have put me on the approved list so just waiting for them to be in touch.
