I've clicked the Remember Me box on the sign in page - then I should be OK for at least the day!

Fantastic Beechnut the long wait is over! Good picture better than my cheap camera if I had known I was going to have a nest in a box that had only one nest in 6 years I would have invested more of my pocket money! Hope all goes well for the little lovvies.

Great news. I hope they do well. Have Great tits got a special food preference when it comes to feeding chicks. I hope there is plenty about for them.🙂

Thanks Guys - this is one of those times when one is really grateful for small mercies. I just hope the chick manages to get through these first couple of days.
Still no sign of the other egg hatching.....
There seems to be plenty of food about Sammi - flies, spiders and small larvae, the only problem at the moment is that Mac has been tending to bring in the same size stuff as he was feeding to Meg and they don't always seem to be able to break it down with their 'tug of war' actions and Meg eats it after she's sent Mac out of the box!
The camera isn't an expensive one Kathy, it is a wireless one, not HD or anything like that. I know wireless cameras don't get that good a press, but for me, with my box being on the wall, only about 25ft from the receiver and recorder, just outside of a bedroom window, it does the trick - no cables trailing about through windows and across floors - just a weather protected mains source close to the box. I did invest in a better quality wireless camera last year, but haven't got round to putting it in, - 'if it ain't broke, why fix it?'
I don't think there will be any rush to get mealies this year - a family of 1 (or 2?) shouldn't be much of a problem to feed. Now if only the BTs had continued with the nest in the cherry tree.......

The very best of luck Beechnut...hope the little guys survives, and that he/she is joined by a brother or sister today.
Glad to hear your experience with the wireless camera option is good....as for next year, I was thinking of getting one for the box down at the shed (which currently has a Great Tit building a nest). It would be the solution....but I was hesitant having read the various reviews.
I would been interested in getting one to start a hedgehog box too.

Such a massive brood for her Beechnut, How will she cope? Do you think she will try for a second brood after this? Surely she's got to and have more eggs?

Thanks GBH - As I said about a wireless camera, I've had one in the wallbox for, I think, all the time it's been up and with no real trouble. I should also think that the technology has improved over the last 6 or 7 years, so it's worth giving it a go.

Best of luck with that then Pete. At least I think I was the first to get an egg and first to hatch, on this side of the Channel, on this forum.

I am beginning to wonder if the egg that is still sitting in the nest cup is in fact the one that was laid on 29th March, 9 days before the second was laid and 12 days before incubation began.

You might be right about the older egg...maybe it was never viable...and the chick may be from egg no.2??

Thanks guys - haven't had a chance to see if the second egg is still in the cup - been having trouble with a pesky starling that has been investigating the box, landing on the hole several times and poking its beak in causing Meg to spread herself out over the cup and give a few hisses and bigging up.
I have scared the starling off a couple of times by moving the curtain in the bedroom window, but they do seem to be persistent - hope it soon gets the message. Anyway Meg seems a bit loath to leave the nest or even show me the cup at the moment - she's sitting very tight!

Finally got a glimpse of the remaining egg - yes it's still there 19 days after being laid and around 16 days of incubation. I think that it's pretty certain that it's not going to hatch! I am 75% sure that I can lay claim to having the smallest number of GT chicks ever hatched in a birdbox ?? B..... starling just made another sortie!! Here's the egg.
