It seems that I was a little premature in writing Meg's obit yesterday, as she turned up at roosting time around 7pm! She regarded her clutch of 2 eggs as something quite unfamiliar, staring at them for about half an hour, occasionally touching them with her beak, but making no attempt to incubate them. She eventually got out of the nestcup and tucked under in the corner of the nestbox with her tailfeathers dangling over the edge of the cup and went to sleep. When I switched on this morning, she had left the nest at about 5-30am and the eggs were in the same position in the cup as last night, the only difference was they had several deposits of bird poo over them! However, she came back into the box around 0830 today and began cleaning up the nest cup, after which she has continued to incubate as if nothing different had occurred. I cannot believe that after all that has happened since midday yesterday to around 0900 this morning, together with the saga of the egg laying, that I cannot really expect a result - but I'll wait and see. If it all comes to nothing, they might decide to give it another go, perhaps with a proper sized clutch.

I'm trying to send a couple of photos, but I am not getting the 'Share' box displayed and can't save and paste, does this mean we now have to create an account to use Postimages?

This one should be first - it shows the droppings on the eggs, as Meg slept out of the cup last night.

Well, Meg is really playing you up Beechnut - but glad she is safe. Will she, won’t she? Wonder if the eggs are still viable. Guess will be a ‘wait and see’

Been a weird year for your GT's beechnut, I hope the eggs are still hatch-able for you.

Maybe it was the male that roosted overnight then Meg came back to do the house work this morning? Especially as the cup was soiled 😃
Great news though 🤞

This rather proves that when sitting females leave the nest, they don't necessarily spend all their time out with the male - Mac obviously did not expect to find only the eggs in the nest!

Just when I'd got the YouTube setup all written down - the b-------- have changed it. It took a while and I'm not sure I clicked all the right places and answers - but it seems to have worked!

Glad Meg came back, shame she missed her snack though

Nice vids Beechnut, was that a train going past? I wonder if he ate that insect himself in the end, or went off to find her?

Yes Matt - Well spotted, the railway is about half a mile away from the bottom of the garden. There is an automatic crossing in the village, so they have to sound the horn when a certain distance away.

Yes, I've had several problems logging in. I experienced for the first time yesterday afternoon.
It is usually only momentary / intermittent and when you try again you can get in.
Something about "Err bears" and picture of a bear attacking the server...and a fella wearing a pair of glasses looking shocked.
