I will be surprised if there's any more than 2 Sue, but hopefully on a positive note, Mac just came into the box with a grub, he was closely followed by Meg, who was fed the grub and the pair then left together....

Best of both worlds at yours Beechnut! Is this your first BT nest on camera? I recall you saying you don't see many blue tits.

I can't really believe this is happening ...... I'm going to have to get some more footage before I really accept it.The nest building is at a standstill at the moment - not seen any action since just before lunch.
One thing that does, I think, confirm they are blueys is that the nest material is much coarser than that used by GTs and of course the cap rather than the helmet.
Fingers crossed that they will be back, and yes Paul it will be my first BT on camera.

Interesting Beechnut, 9 nine day whoo, never seen that ! That one egg is not breeded I think. Its covered with nestmaterial during the night so no problem. Also the broodplace on the female great tit is at his maximum ? Good luck with your birds !

The egg that has been alone in the nest since 29th March has not really been incubated GBH. Even during the night when the female GT is on the nest it is not subjected to her full body heat as the 'incubating patch' on her breast would not be exposed. During the day she's not on the nest at all. It's not until the clutch is complete that incubation in earnest starts - she will then be on the eggs for most of the day and night.
Having said that, it will be interesting to see if all the eggs hatch!

I'm a bit disappointed and confused this morning guys, for despite being the warmest night for some time and the promise of temperatures of 20+, there are still only 2 eggs in the nest. They are being duly cared for and the nest is cleaned each morning and the eggs covered over before Meg leaves the box. She usually returns a few times before midday with some bits of fluffy stuff which is liberally deposited around and over the cup area. If I have to wait a week or so for each egg, the season will be over before it's even begun! I just hope something more positive happens in the Cherry Tree.

Maybe its a couple of false starts....and while these egg might not be viable, soon she will settle in properly and lay a regular daily clutch???
