Thanks Guys - I'm happy with the way things are going so far this year and it will continue to the right conclusion. Never thought about that Paul - that would be good, but as you know, things are never predictable when it comes to our feathered friends! Not much to report regarding my box this morning - I miscalculated the time Meg would be stirring when resetting the timers after the move to BST, and she was well into covering the cup when the recorder switched in. I did catch a glimpse of one egg as she stretched a wing, but not the three I was hoping to see! She made three or four return journeys over the next half hour or so, bringing in more fluffy stuff, but I don't expect to see her until around 1930. as I expect she's spending quality time with Mac and building up her reserves for later events.

A rather strange thing happened this morning - I watched Meg waking and stretching, hoping to see 3 or 4 eggs under her, when she got up off the nest cup exposing just one egg, and left the box. That was 30 minutes ago and she hasn't returned since! Is this an egg she has just laid and there are others further down? If so, why leave it exposed for so long. I am certain that there were two eggs in the nest two days ago........... Most peculiar!

Hi Ann, thankfully Meg has been back in and made a bit of an effort to cover the egg. She actually made 3 visits with fluffy stuff!

good old Meg, doing her job, have you got other boxes Yes - two others, but very rarely used for nesting, mostly roosting. My wallbox is very much the "near to Waitrose" house!

It seems that this is Meg's routine, (I think she must be a yearling) to lay an egg each morning and leave it exposed and gradually cover it over the next few hours!

I'm beginning to wonder if there is only one egg in the nest - it was the same this morning, she got off the nest area - can't really call it a cup - and a solitary egg was left uncovered. She left the box and came back a couple of times with fluffy stuff and covered the egg.

Could there be more hidden I wonder??? Although you've been watching closely.....so probably not. This is an interesting one.

Very strange Beechnut, however they really are clever at hiding the eggs so who knows. Perhaps she’s waiting to give you a big surprise. Seriously though one egg would be really odd. Sue

My female sparrow does this every single year, I get first egg then waiting 4 or 5 days for the second one sometimes 1 week before the second. Never stopped them hatching and things always had successful broods of all eggs hatching, Maybe it will be the same for your GT? unless she is hiding more under the wool and just leaving the 1 on show.

She's still obviously sitting on it all night and eventually covers it for the day, but viable............?
Mac came in last night and brought a titbit just after she had settled in, so they are still a pair.
Here's something that happened earlier. (I hope)

Well at least that gives me some hope Paul, I was wondering if they had deliberately stopped breeding because of the temperature change?, and was not expecting the first egg to be viable, we shall wait and see.
I must admit I have never seen this behaviour happen before in all the years I've had a camera box. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

That could be the case Beechnut, Luckily the temps are going up from tomorrow and next week looks like a good week with temps into the doubles and plenty of sunny weather across the UK. Should kickstart everything for people waiting for egg laying and people waiting for nest building.

I don't think mine would be much use to anyone Sammi - Still only one egg in the nest this morning, but she's done a proper job of covering it over today, whether that means anything or not......................

I'm not holding my breath (yes I am) but there is a possibility that there might be a second egg in the cup this morning. Meg spent an age covering and tidying this morning without getting fully off the cup until she was almost ready to go, leaving a definite one and maybe a threequarters covered second.
I shall more than likely have to wait until tomorrow morning to verify the situation.
Fingers crossed!

Not sure if it’s me Beechnut but looking back at your photos I am sure there will be more eggs. Maybe i’m Wrong but when I look at the photos the egg/s are in very slightly different position (judging it by looking at the hole). In one picture egg appears to be centre of the hole and in another it appears to be nearer top of the hole as you look at the picture. Only slight (unless it’s my wonky eyes ), but could be she is just really good at hiding them or it’s my imagination working overtime. Sue
