Things going well ( ) with 5 little squirmers in roomy cup - pretty much all the same size, so the late hatcher is getting well filled!

Its good that the old egg is gone...it was a sad thing to see....I suppose it would have been trampled underfoot and they would have had a worse situation on their hands.
Strange they didn't take it away before now when Tim left. Maybe she was holding out hope?

She laid the first of the second clutch before Tim left GBH - maybe she couldn't tell which of the two were viable - after all, that egg had sat in the cup for over 5 weeks, 3 of which were after Tim hatched! I Dunno!!

that’s great she took the egg away Beechnut, I always hate that unpatched egg or two being kicked around the nest, its amazing they don’t break it, another wonder of nature.......

A clear nest to watch now without the unhatched egg. Hope they all make it.

Thanks All for the comments. Things still going to plan - should get my full size mealies today - seems they are on ration at some suppliers! Here's a pic of the fabulous five, now 6 days' old and showing the start of feathering.

Ah that's brilliant Beechnut you must feel very proud that you have helped once again to rear two nests with only putting your hand in your pocket. This is how it should be! Good luck once again for fledging time.

My Famous Five are now 9 days old and bulking and feathering up. Meg will soon need to make the cup larger. Nearly ran out of mealies, due to a failure to deliver (so far) on an order placed on 1st June with Livefoodsdirect. Luckily we were saved by Waxwormsuk.com - I ordered mealies and waxies from them on Friday and they arrived Saturday morning just as I was scraping out the last of the previous mealies into the feeder. I shall be ordering from them in the future.

Glad you got your mealorms and waxies, its amazing how fast they go through them I use livefoodsdirect and so far have had excellent service, usually arriving the next day. I really do believe that our contribution to their diet makes a lot of difference and helps many youngsters to survive that wouldnt otherwise.

waxwormsuk is the only site that does "mini waxworms" which is really handy for when chicks are first born.

My GTs are 11 days old today and one big boy ventured out of the cup just now - Meg obviously had a word or two with him, but it didn't make any impression! He's still out and not yet had a feed despite begging, he seems to be totally ignored when Meg and Mac come in. If he doesn't get back into the cup, he may well be going hungry.

Yes, you're right Sammi - At least he has been given a couple of waxies and mealies in the last two and a half hours that he's been out. The feeds don't seem to be so frantic at the moment - only Meg seems to be feeding, at about 30 min intervals and they only seem to get one mealie each - I haven't seen Mac for some time - Whoops! he's just popped in a couple of times. The little maverick got two mealies in this session!

The Mealworm order saga continues:-
Catchup - I ordered 500g of Regular mealworms from Livefoodsdirect on 1st June to be sure that I had some for 5th/6th June when I anticipated running out of the current supply and LFD advised that they were rationing customers to a maximum of 500g per week, as they were experiencing larger numbers of orders and this could cause a shortage.
When I hadn't received anything by the 5th, I emailed LFD to find out what the position was, but as I didn't get a reply I ordered 500g of mealies and 100 waxies from waxwormsuk, which I received on Saturday morning.
Continuing - On Monday midday the order from LFD arrived - slightly battered but OK inside.
On Monday afternoon I had an email from LFD to ask me if the order had arrived, to which I replied in the affirmative.
Today I had another email from LFD to inform me that they had despatched the original order on 1st June and another one had been despatched yesterday, and asked if that one had arrived!
In the meantime, on Monday morning because of the possible impending shortage and/or rationing, I ordered another 500g of mealies from WWUK to see me through to fledging and for the time that the fledglings needed their natural diet supplementing.
Now because of the arrival of the 500g yesterday from LFD and the possible arrival of another 500g from them (heaven knows when or if), and the 500g ordered and despatched from WWUK I shall have between 1 and 1.5kg of mealies by the time the Famous Five fledge. My birds in the garden area will think it's Christmas again! At least the robin is feeding his youngsters well from the tobacco tin in top of a fence post - sadly though the nest is not in my garden.
