Your bird watch is extended again this year Beechnut fantastic they must love you and your garden. The season is over so quickly isn't it so this extra one is a nice treat for you. Oddly enough the last few days I have had a GT visiting my feeders looking for fruity nibbles I put out, so it must have a nest somewhere, I hasten to add the BT's do not challenge it!!!

3 of the 5 eggs hatched early this morning - I switched off the recorder at 1945 last night with 5 eggs intact and Meg tucked under. At 0530 this morning there were already 3 chicks writhing about in the cup, so they must have hatched really early and close to each other timewise. The 4th chick hatched at 0818 and I am now waiting on the 5th egg which was laid 2 days after the 4th egg, so it could be a while yet! Although there are 2 eggs visible, one is the addled 1st egg laid way back in March.

Wonderful Beechnut ......at least you get a nice long season with the GTs, going to try and attract GTs into one of my next boxes next year, plenty of them around, Ive feathered their nests, fed their families, the least they could do is nest in my garden, I have to check sizes of openings in my next boxes think they might be too small, but we can fix that I’m sure

Thanks guys, would love it if the 5th egg were to hatch, but with this year being odd in so many ways bird-wise, I'll be well satisfied with helping these four through to a life in the natural world.

Here's a lengthy discussion between Meg and Mac on how to get their offspring to take their feed!

Thanks all. Well the final (5th) egg hatched at 0915 this morning, so here's hoping he gets enough food to catch the others up. Mini mealies are in the feeder when required.

Great news about the 5th egg. My late Hatcher made it and I'm sure it was the last one to fledge too. Have been spending time editing footage of the outside view of them all going today so hopefully I can get the clips on line soon.

Thanks Everyone - I'm really chuffed that we got a real hand full in the nest, and things seem to be going well. Plenty of regular feeding, mainly from Mac, although he does occasionally bring in something oversized, which he perseveres with until it's either eaten by a chick or a parent. He brought an large-ish mealie in just now, which took over 3 minutes to get a chick to down it. All the time this was going on Meg stood there silent, tapping her foot, thinking, no doubt, ' How many times do I need to tell him'. One thing I noticed this morning was that I couldn't see the 2 month old egg in the cup - so I trawled back through earlier footage and found this for 1710 yesterday......... Meg on her way out to dump the addled egg laid on 29th March!

I think our nesting is over. When they don't nest in the cam box its hard to see how many eggs laid and hatched and fledged. Last week I only saw one and that was taken by a magpie. Even on the security cam couldn't see any fledging. Just the adults were in and out a lot. we have just left the cam boxes up to see if any venture to use them.

Yes it's a bit late now Twinkle - the only answer is to cam up all your boxes to be sure I have 3 boxes and very rarely (this year for a couple of days) have any more than my wallbox used, but they all have cameras in just in case.
