We were lucky enough to catch this big boy having a look in our pond recently. Fortunately our pond is just a wildlife pond, so not much activity at the moment.

How have you found your wildlife pond for attracting birds (and other wildlife)? Obviously enough to get the heron curious! The reason I ask is that we (myself and my two boys) have just finished making a wildlife pond in our garden. It's very early days, of course, but we are hoping it will attract a few interesting creatures soon enough. We literally only got it filled this past week (rainwater only, and typically it didn't rain at all for nearly a month after we dug it!).

Didn't rob any of your fish did it?

Didn't rob any of your fish did it? None in there Paul. It's just a wildlife pond with plenty of Newt and Frog activity in the springtime. He/she was only here for a couple of days then moved on. She's resident in the village and has pillaged other folk's ponds.

Fabulous photo of the heron, I must have missed your posting before now Joe & as you say, it's big! We don't get them, but we did get a couple of ducks a few years ago - I think they got lost whilst on their way to the big lake in the park near us! Mind you, our pond is very small but luckily we brought frog spawn from our previous home (when it was still allowed) so we do have lovely "froggie-doggies" every year (as my grandaughter used to call them.)
