Hi Everyone,
This message has been written & saved in Notepad, a bit at a time over 10 days, as I can't type much at all because it hurts too much to bend forward to type for too long. I check in here everyday though & read your messages but as you may have noticed, I only click the Like button to them. On 1st March, I had an excruciating pain from my lower back all the way down my left side including my foot. My foot & leg swelled up and then my foot became numb.
To cut a long story short, I ended up being taken to A&E for a suspected spinal injury & thoroughly examined, good news is no damage to my spine. I have muscle damage all down my left hand side which is affecting my sciatic nerve. They were wonderful & I am now on prescribed pain killers, but was told that it could take many weeks or even months before I can walk properly again.
I can't go upstairs so sleeping in the lounge & I do recommended exercises so I can walk slowly into the kitchen, but can't straighten my back when doing so. This is tiring, so I sit down then & can straighten my back but only then. Can't get dressed either, so night attire & pop socks on with slippers - not the best dressed lady in the road! My husband is looking after me, gets up immediately when I get up to give me my pills as the pain is awful then.
It looks like as from this weekend, we'll both be confined as I am 76 & Gerry is 81. The couple next door have told us that they will do all our shopping for us & give any more help we need, for as you know, online shopping is a dead loss at the moment. It was wonderful to receive an unexpected message from our daughter Debra on Monday, who lives in Nottingham - as below. ------------ After watching the news you may have to start self isolating sooner than thought. Supermarket deliveries look like they are not happening quickly enough due to high demand. If Nas and Carole can't get your shopping done for you - please, please let me know and we will come up and do it and leave it on your doorstep. Please promise me you will tell me?! xx

Hi Diane Sorry to hear about your problems. My husband and I are just in the age zone so are keeping away from harm as much as possible. Glad you've got some help and support. People are lovely aren't they. Our village has got a great support network so we are very lucky. Keep safe 🤗

I also missed this post...
I generally never look at the other discussion threads on this forum, until someone mentioned yesterday they might set up an 'other discussion' thread, to have somewhere to go and chat, just to talk about life in general while we are going through this crisis.
So, I came to take a look to see if it had been started and saw this.
That sounds dreadful...sorry you are in pain and going through this on top of everything else. I hope things have improved since 18th March?

everybody for your kind messages. The doctor has increased the dosage of my meds from 20mg each night before bed to 50mg & have to test out for another few days before reporting back to him..... to increase or decrease them. Sleeping better on settee, but having headaches when I wake up now. Walking better for a short time at the moment. OK for food as our neighbour does it for us.

to everyone, but although now on 75mg tablets per day, at night - I'm sleeping better now but still can't walk properly, so can't see the bird box at all as I can't get into the garden. Doctor will review meds in a couple of weeks.

I spoke to our Doctor this morning, he's put my medication on repeat prescription & answered all my questions. My still swollen, cold feet are probably due to my circulation not being good, as I haven't been able to exercise or walk properly for two months now. Because of my age, plus the severe damage done to my muscles, he warned me that my sciatica will take longer to heal completely - can be up to 6 months & in a few cases up to 2 years. If I don't need the Ibuprofen I don't have to take them anymore, but I have to carry on with the Amitriptyline until he decides to wean me off them gradually. I'm still sleeping downstairs though, but I am managing without Ibuprofen now as I can walk properly but only for short distances, so any gardening at the moment is impossible. Three days ago, I finally managed to get down the five steps to our patio & it was bliss seeing & hearing all the birds!

Diane im so sorry I have only just seen your first post, I feel awful about it! Cos we all are supposed to be supporting one another, I feel like I let you down by not commenting You certainly have been through hell by the sounds of things. I totally know where your coming from with the nerve pain, I too was given amitriptyline, but unfortunately had to stop taking them because I couldn’t function properly at work, (gave me brain fog). I really do hope that the painkillers do you some good Diane, and I’m so happy you managed to hear the birds again, it is surprising what a boost nature can have on our well being isn’t it?! take special care Diane & stay safe Elle xx

Elle, Thank you for your lovely message & there's no need to feel awful about not seeing my original post. I have trouble keeping up with all the posts on here - just reading them all! I'm making a little progress everyday as I go upstairs & downstairs a lot, very carefully (my marathon! ) and the pain is bearable. Belated congratulations on becoming a Grandma for the first time - it's wonderful isn't it, but time flies. My eldest one is 22 now (called Eleanor after my Grandma), but from her birth everyone calls her Ellie except us! It was an emergency caesarian & it was five days before we met her as we lived 75 miles away & my husband was working full time then. The good news is that great tits are using my one & only box, flying to and fro & two families of sparrows are nesting in the ivy, plus one blackbird family. A robin family is nesting in a Red Robin bush which is very appropriate.

Oh Diane I am so pleased you are on the mend, take it slowly & you’ll get there Becoming a nana for the first time certainly never looked like this when I envisaged it Diane, but as long as we all stay safe, then it’ll be worth the wait I’m sure well you certainly seem to have a garden full of various birds, your nearly catching up to ‘Dr Doolittle!’ (Paul, that is!) He has all kinds of animals & birds coming into his garden I hope everything goes well with your progress Diane, & you’ll soon be up and running soon! (Pardon the pun) Elle xx

Diane I’m so sorry, only seeing this thread now, only because you mentioned the other thread you were creating. Gosh it’s been a terrible few months for you both medically and now financially. Everything always seems to happen together. Last year we planned to visit Rwanda, to visit my daughter called Eleanor by us and Ellie to all her friends, just like your grand daughter , when our big american fridge freezer gave up on us, followed by our induction hob, then the washing machine. As if that wasn’t bad enough the boiler gave up too..... All were bought at the same time so all went at the same time. We did get to Rwanda in the end, but just didn’t travel on to all the places like Zanzibar we’d planned. We had a brilliant time. Hope you just keep getting better and better

Oh crumbs & I thought we were having a bad time - nothing compared to what happened to you - you are made of stronger stuff than I am! yahoo_clap Thanks a lot for your message, it's cheered us up in a funny way, as they always say there's always somebody worse off than you are.
