How lovely for you a Robins nest I have a diamond robin box hidden away behind a budlea bush, gives me a little hope that one day a robin will choose it Hi Karen Well it was a real surprise to me but I think I noticed it too late as I fear they have fledged. I have learned that Robins are very shy and if they see that their nest has been noticed they will go elsewhere. However, if the female is incubating eggs she will naturally stay there as long as possible. As you say never give up hope, if you have everything in the right place no reason for them not to nest in your garden. Like you I shall certainly keep them peeled next year. for both of us!

Well, my first attempt at snatching a photo from my new trail cam. Had to mount it close to nest box to get any images of a fast flying small exocet missile! This is Moss with his horns up reminds me of a winged griffin!

Hope trail cam arrives in time for you to get footage Kathy, be wonderful to see Sue Super speedy delivery Sue. I ordered at 8.30am yesterday and arrived by 6.00pm thanks to express delivery and Amazon! I wasn't expecting a lot for what I paid but if anyone is interested it was APEMAN MINI cost £49.99 plus Sim card etc. It will allow me to see the chicks fledge and I have my outside camera to see where they land. Hubby has mounted it on a pole and placed it close to the nest as possible without disturbing them so fingers crossed! However, it does not match up to your bt in flight which I still have on my computer because I loved it!

Looking forward to seeing all the brilliant footage/captures you will get with it. I am very flattered that you have a pic of mine Kathy, if it’s the one i’m Thinking of, I too am quite pleased with that one (wings outspread with poo sac in beak?), that one was really just a very lucky snap - I was sat watching the feeding of chicks leading up to fledging and kept missing the flight (snapping a bit too soon or too late) so I tried ‘panning’ the bird in flight and snapping as it went. Hey presto , I got the shot I was hoping for. Still love using my camera but not had much opportunity of late what with lockdown and the birds deciding against my box. Walked along the river Stour for my exercise a few days ago and lucky enough to find a great spotted woodpecker nest and parents busily feeding chicks so that was enjoyable. Good luck with yours fledging. Now you are set up well you shouldn’t miss the big event. Sue

Oh I see Paul what you meant I sit to be corrected! (Have deleted my previous post) My first experience with trails and I can say they are not the best for small fast birds but as mine are due to fledge on Tuesday I hadn't much time to research the best thing to buy. Although the time lapse is a just a few seconds it is still not quicker than these little perishers! If the BT lands somewhere and stays for a few seconds you get a better image. Perhaps if you pay a fortune you can get definition but for this type of picture I don't think you can beat a good telephoto lens camera if you have patience to wait all day for fledgers to appear. Annoying that I couldn't find one with zoom. Fine though for larger animals I think. I shall use it though next year to observe if my Robin returns. I am 80% happy with my purchase. What's your opinion of yours and do you have any suggestions for future use?

Mine is a victure one Kathy, However its pretty much looks the same as apeman ones and got all same features. I think your one is better MP then mine though, I paid less than £30 I am sure its 12MP or 14MP I see yours is 16MP!
I normally only use mine for the hedgehogs coming into the garden, I know Karen uses her trail cameras alot though so she could be better answering this. and used it first day of putting the scott feeder out to see if the BT's was using it.
I'll share the videos below, They aren't nothing amazing but for less than £30 its really good.

Paul for that I think they are about equal actually looking at yours. I think you got a bargain for 30 pound, I just went on Amazon reviews but you never know if they are really genuine. . I obviously have much to learn about these yet, today I have used it on motion detect only but the gales haven't helped as I had to go through many frames! I have Photofun Studio program on my computer so once the Sandisc is inserted it automatically shows me still photographs which is really helpful. I then choose the frame I want and bingo. I've set the Apeman to record constantly tomorrow to get a feel for the video side of it, my only worry is how to edit the film, you know I gave up with Cheapcam Tomorrow I will set it to record video to see which is better. You are so lucky to have Hedges haven't seen one here in years! listen to their munching ...aaah If Karen reads this & has anything to add I would appreciate it.

Hi blueeyedchick, I have the same ones as Paul but also got a mini apeman one too same as yours so it would fit into one of the hog houses so I wouldn't need a power cable running to the house. I have found it to be a really good camera, you can set the sensitivity to suit the conditions, it managed to pick up the bluetits going in and out of the feeder which I wasnt sure it would. Only needs 4 AAa too so that is good. Have a play around with the settings and I am sure you will love it. With regards to editing I take the sd card out and pop it into my laptop and trim videos or you can take a photo from the video.

Thanks Karen for that info nice to see someone with same kit as me. I will practice editing over the coming months and I may put camera on a lower level overnight to see if our fox appears again. As most of our garden is at the front I am loathe to leave it on show in case anyone takes a fancy to it. But as it's small it might not be noticed?

Your welcome, it does have quite a good trigger range I noticed so hopefully you will pick lots of action up without it being too much on show for any passing opportunist!

Lovely footage Kathy. I love to see shots of birds in flight. I have an old trail cam but it has a pretty slow trigger so fast things have gone off screen by the time it clicks in.🤣 Useless for birds but good for badgers and foxes though. I must look I to newer models. The CCTV type camera i bought for external nest shots bends the image a bit but it was pretty good for the fledging.

Yes, I find my CCTV dome camera is just not up to the job...as you say Sammi, it bends the image...anyway, it'll do for now. Very impressed by the trail cameras though.
