Don't know if anyone's been keeping watch on Malcolm and Elizabeth's boxes but box 1 and 2 have nesting material in. Thought i'd open this thread for us to chat about it in the coming months. live feed here - webcam.biggonline.co.uk:8081/index.htm

Thanks Paul. I'll be sure to keep checking them. I wonder if they'll get 2 females sharing a nest again?

Hi folks...
Two nearly completed nests here at Malcolms to watch 'live' for those people whose bird boxes have fallen "a fowl" of a nest this year.

Wonder why that is Taz? I just go to their site and click on the viewer. There are two choices in ways to view and I have had to select the second option for on my I-pad, but it is live streaming and wonderful to watch. Both box one and two are now hatching so I keep swapping from one to the other. Sorry you can’t view it Sue i think it’s called java script I have to click on cause my iPad doesn’t have java - don’t know if that helps at all.

I seem to remember doing this before. I don't get the option on my mobile, but do on the laptop. I am now able to view Malcolms' nests.
Thanks for your help x

OMG, does anyone know what has happened in the Bigg boxes???? Chicks hatched less than a week ago in box 2. And now all deserted except one unhatched egg . Has anyone else been following these boxes and seen anything wrong? Sue

Update on the tragedy in the Bigg boxes. I have heard from Malcolm that Drake (the male in box 2), stopped visiting/feeding abruptly at 20:10 Tuesday evening, and though Daisy tried to keep up with feeds the chicks got hungrier and by last night only 6 were still alive. When Malcolm switched on this morning the remaining six had obviously died during the night and some removed by Daisy and Malcolm saw Daisy remove the last two chick bodies this morning. Malcolm believes that Drake must have been predated as he had been a very attentive partner up to that point. So very sad . I had been following these every day but because the little bodies are entangled at this stage, I hadn’t noticed anything wrong. Didn’t realise it was just poor Daisy struggling to keep them both warm and fed Sue

I think something else must of been going on with that Sue, Even a single female should be able to raise a few even if its only 2 or 3 or 1 at the very least. Pretty strange how she couldn't even manage that, Surely food supply isn't that bad in the area? I always wonder when chicks just pop off like that if they have been fed something dodgy

I guess that is always a possibility Paul, but is strange that the dad just abruptly disappeared after feeding so regularly. Maybe, with having 9 to try and feed, and as so young, keep warm as well, she just couldn’t cope . Watched the playback of last night and they were certainly all begging for food continually. Guess we will never know for sure what happened but Malcolm is convinced it was the demise of Dad. Had she only concentrated on a couple of the chicks I guess she may have coped - but trying to feed them all...... Just hope everyone else’s stay safe and fledge successfully. Sue

I guess that shows how important supplying live food is then, Lastnight I watched dolly in and out the mealworm feeder none stop she was doing this for a good 10 minutes. all 9 chicks was begging for food by time she finished they was all full and not one begging, They are a week old tomorrow so demand for food is growing. Both male and female still feeding them in my case though, Become more relying on the mealworm feeder at the moment.

Such a sad end to so much hard work. These things happen and we will never know the full story I suppose. I've had single parents manage to bring up some if not all of the chicks so who knows why this was such a sad end😢
