Hi there,
Since 2003 I have a birdbox from a uk-company ,Boxwatch( is not running anymore?), which is placed on my balcony in Hoek van Holland(Netherlands), 30 km from Rotterdam near the Northsea. The box itself is still in good condition with an entrance hole of 32mm, specially for great tit, which are here more common than the blue tit. Last years I have mostly 2 broods in the box. Nestbuilding starts nowadays early in March so there is time enough for a second nest ! At the moment there is already some moss in the box so it looks promising here again this year Good luck for all of you with your nestboxes also ! I will keep you update from here how things are going here Have a good weekend, Tom.

Hi Tom, Great to read your post. I may be wrong but I think yours is the first moss in the group? Good luck for the season. Our two Boxwatch boxes are doing well too although we've had to replace the roof one. Sammi

Hi there, No corona-virus for the great tits, thats for sure. The female great tit is working hard to create her nest. The male is watching. At this moment the male is roosting in this box, the female is roosting elswhere in another box ? When she comes with softer material before egglaying start she will sleep in this box and the male has to look for another roosting place. One week to go ? Good luck to you all, Tom.

Ah Tom, you're so lucky to have a Great Tit nesting...I really love those birds. But from what you say, the Great Tit is more common than the Blue Tit in the Netherlands...how interesting! Best wishes with everything for this season. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy watching everything now that Covid 19 has put us all into 'forced relaxation'...thats what we are calling the lock down here in Ireland anyway!!!

Hi Tommy and good luck with your GT nest, you are a few days in front of us in the UK. I have had birdboxes for more years than I care to remember and have always had GTs and I love them too, although I wouldn't say no to a BT for perhaps just one year. My GT has been building for three days I reckon, so a little behind yours.

Good luck to you Tommy - You are now well ahead of us in the UK, everything is stuttering here. Will they? Won't they? Are they ever going to?
I've had just one egg for 9 days now............
Hopefully you'll be cheering in about 12 days.

I run my cable from the birdbox to my TV through a cat door on my balcony. So its a little open. For the first time I had a mouse in the house which came through the small opening. Luckily I catched the mouse last evening. But now I think about putting the cable back on my balcony especially for the evening and night. When its light hopefully there is no problem with them

Hi Tommie, You could take some pictures of the TV screen and post pictures of eggs, chicks etc. Thats pretty much what most of us do if you have it on no recorder.

Hi Paul, yes thats possible. But I have to say say that my old boxwatch-camera gives not an amazing picture nowadays., That was the reason I have bought a new camera recently from Green feathers with HD and lighting, also a new chalet box. Last week I tested it and it gives a brilliant picture, Thats for next year. But I can try it of course.

Don't worry about the quality Tommie, We just like seeing everyone updates, Black or white, colour, good quality or not.
I'm forever changing stuff in my boxes year on year haha!

I love the old Boxwatch boxes. One of mine has had a new roof cleverly constructed by hubby using extra thick plywood with a bit of plastic guttering as ridge tiling? Will try to get picture posted. Looking forward to fledging day 🤞
