Thanks Sue, Pete and Hfriel,
It will certainly be interesting although we've added potato peelings and banana skins to their diet instead of just carrots. It's easy to see their illuminated waste 😂

Sorry about the quality of the feeding video, I just did this with my mobile (hand held) so probably a bit shaky too.

Lovely Taz. GT's are so clever and bold. They simply are less timid than many other garden birds!

GT's one of my favourite birds so striking would love a nest myself. Lovely that you have hatched congrats! Hope the babes continue to thrive.

Are everyone's chicks looking hot in the nest? Ours are feeding well, but have their beaks open a lot of the time. Hopefully they'll be ok.

Yes mine are Taz even though they are in the shade all day. Thanks Pete, that's reassuring. Our box is also in the shade most of the time too.

Just been saying in Pete's thread Helen, Mine are fine, I've never had chicks show signs of overheating in my boxes and its my south boxes that get used yearly. Its 21c today here but they seem fine, Don't know how its never happened you'd expect it to with being south facing aswell, They are in full shade though even facing south.

I knew we should've got the cat deterring measures in place...we have just caught a local cat trying to destroy the nest. Luckily no serious damage fine, just some material removed. All chicks are safe and both parents been feeding them since the incident.
We are now in overdrive constructing something without disturbing the nest ðŸ˜

Thanks Sue, so far we've pulled the carpet grippers up from one of our carpets. Well, it needs changing anyway 😉. Construction is under way.👷🔨🚧

We've just watched the video of the attack. Two (we saw the 2nd attempt) attacks, first one really distressing it came so close to getting a chick. I'll post the videos later, but I'm working shortly.

Oh Taz I hope the cat doesn't keep coming back and chicks will remain fine! Really put something in place for next year so it can't happen, Looks like it be a yearly thing if not. I just hope this doesn't turn a sad ending

Taz - I saw Bill Oddie once screw a wire hanging basket over his Robins nest which had nested in Ivy on his garden wall, it deterred the local moggie he was having problems with. Worked a treat by all accounts and I have always remembered it. Cats I wouldn't hurt because I love all creatures but I hate hearing of this as they kill thousands of birds each year!

I just hope this doesn't turn a sad ending Don't worry, I'm going to move the box next year. For now though we have put things around the box, the cat shouldn't be able to reach the hole or get near the box now 🤞

I hope you manage to solve the cat problem Taz. It is such a worry. We have a neighbour's cat who insists in using our garden and skulks under a bush near the feeders. We have a squeezy bottle of water to hand and are trying to get him to bypass our garden.

Fingers crossed it works Sadly, it hasn't quite worked, the barsteward cat somehow got a foot purchased and grabbed a chick at 5:30 this morning, hubby just missed it. The female had gone for a feed 😡😡😡😡😡

Oh no That’s very upsetting Taz, we had that problem one year and we put loads of chicken wire high up just under the nest, cat couldn’t climb over it....we moved the nest box next year
