Well, after last years disaster whereby our great tit nest was destroyed we had planned on moving the box. That did not happen, but now we have a rooster. Probably a female (quite clean), so now we will just have to look at ways to make sure the same thing doesn't happen again.

Nice to have you back with us Taz, Good luck for the new season, Hopefully you come up with a way of stopping any cats getting to the box.
Is your roosting a GT again?

Thanks Sammi,
Yes, we were very upset about it. I'm disappointed that we did not remember to move the box early enough though. Not sure how we are going to cat proof it yet. We will come up with something.
You have your work cut out for you with 5 boxes, lovely pics, keep them coming.

Yes, GT back again. I thought at first it was a female, but the box has started getting messy so probably a male. I have seen the pair outside a lot, so fingers crossed.
I don't know what to do about cat proofing the box yet, probably trim a nearby branch from the tree and maybe something not nice to sit on covering the roof . Looking forward to all your news/pics again.

You could get something like this to put on the roof Taz www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Garden-Fence-Wall-Spikes-Security-Bird-Cat-Repellent-Intruder-Burglar-Anti-Climb/312334008674

Hi Taz I wish you all the luck in the world, I had a cat problem with one of my boxes and I made like a “bouquet garnie “ with Lemon thyme & another strong smelling herb I can’t remember now, and laid it in the cats pathway to the nestbox & I have to say it was a massive success, I changed every few days so that the smell was strong (apparently they don’t like strong citrus smells) Also there are some plastic strips with nobbles on, the strips are about an inch wide and you can nail/glue them on the roof of your nest box & the cats don’t like the uneven surface, it’s worth a try Taz
Good luck
Elle Xx

Thanks Elle,
Just an update, my rooster has stopped roosting, I think they may have found a better box nearby. The male sits above the box every morning, chirping away. Been too busy lately so not really had a chance to keep eye on comings and goings.
Fingers still crossed though.

Hi everyone,
Not had a lot of time to look through posts, very busy at work at the moment. Update on my box, about 4 days ago a GT started bringing in nest material, when it became quite promising a blue tit turned up one afternoon and nearly cleaned it all out!
Since then, the GT has been very busy and today looks like the nest is complete. The GT has also started roosting overnight now too. Some soft furnishings may need to be added, but all in all I think she is pretty much settled and completed with her new home.
Phew! Just a shame I can't be at home to watch it all unfold, bit of reversal this year, hubby is at home all the time so he can keep me updated with progress during the day. Sadly our recorder packed up last year so unable to put photos up yet. Will get hubby onto it soon.
Hopefully I can start looking through all your posts over the weekend.
Enjoy and look forward to catching up with nest boxes on the forum.

Nice to see you have a nest again Taz, Did you manage to sort the box out to be "cat proof" in the end.
