Hi Benn....hmmm, could be a wren...but if you google "White Breasted Nut Hatch", this might be your guy/lady???? I think the colouring looks more grey than brown. Here is a picture of one:

The white breasted nuthatch is an American bird GBH, the chance of that rocking up in benns garden is extremely unlikely, if you look at a standard wren and benns picture you can see it’s a wren, who do check out standard nest boxes all the time sometimes go on and nest in them.

Looked much larger than a Wren Paul. Also my screen photo has subdued the colour of its cheek which was blue.

Lol!!! Right Ted! ......well, maybe it flew this direction to get away from Trump??? Anyway....nice bird whatever it is...mostly likely a wren then. But colours so different...lesser spotted blue/grey Wren?

Shame you don't have a camera outside in that case Benn, Because it does look alot like a wren on the picture you've posted. Hopefully it comes back for another look and you can get a better look at it

The Nuthatch/Wren hybrid has not been seen since! However, we are getting a regular visit and clean up from a blue tit in our "Blue Tit" box. The male keeps on flying up to our House martin nests. Not sure if one or both are roosting in them but I hope they don't try and nest in them. If I see signs of this happening I'll have to block the entrances. Only one pair of Starlings on our street this year. 4 years ago we had about 8 pairs. Dunno what has happened. I've finally managed to install some DVR software on my Macbook Air which allows me to take video clips from any of my cameras history or snapshots. Here is a clip from yesterdays Blue tit inspection. The box looks messy but its far cleaner than it was a couple of weeks ago

Just a shout out on promoting our little videos to a wider audience. Yesterday my wife posted the little clip above on Facebook and got an amazing response. Now her marketing business revolves around social media so we should not be that surprised as she has many friends because of that.. However, many respondents commented that they had passed it on to elderly relations and friends or others who were isolated who were delighted to see this. We have been inundated with pleas to continue posts of progress as the nesting continues. Hazel my wife has had over 300 likes and many comments! People are looking for positive and heart warming stuff in these dark times so I would encourage all members with the ability to share small video clips to do so on Facebook or other social media for others to enjoy. We need good stuff to hearten downcast and worried folk and i believe we have something here that does just that!

You and your wife are going to have a great time being a documentary film makers now in the next few months...the pressure is on and your public awaits you. You'll have to add in some David Attenborough style voice overs and everything !! Yes, I even had a comment on my YouTube channel for yesterdays post about my bird removing the nesting material. I didn't think anyone was looking at my channel...now I have TWO followers since yesterday. I have become an influencer!!! ha,ha!!! Yeah....People just love looking at these videos...there is something so pure and natural about watching these birds go about their business....something that probably hasn't changed much for them in centuries (apart from the fancy boxes and hi-tech cameras). We are giving people an insight into something very special indeed.

Hi Benn I've just posted a little update of my box happenings on our local village board earlier this morning and I too have had lots of interest I actually came on here today to get some dvr help. I put off getting one earlier as I hate the idea of more technology in the house. I think in these times of isolation it will be worth it so long as the local bird life cooperates. 👍🐦 I'll go back and study other people's set up I think is the best thing. The video quality of yours is superb. Off to research all past posts! P.s.DVR arrives today. After dithering for so long I just bought the one I hoped would do the job. I was browsing around looking for the right one and started to see companies were starting to announce closure because of the situation. So I hope i have got all the necessary bits and Bob's to set it up🤣

Yesterday I had to block up our House Martin artificial nest sites as our pair of BT's at the front were taking too much of an interest for my liking. I had visions of the Martins returning in late April and turfing out the blue tit nests. Thankfully it seems to have worked as we are getting more visits to our Blue tit box this morning!

Thanks Ann & Sue. Seems to have worked a treat. Visits by both birds together today and a marked increase in frequency of visits and wiggles this morning. I am sure the male was leaning towards choosing the Martins nest. I, gonna have to remember to block the entrances when the Martins migrate in Sept/Oct.

You took a gamble and it paid off!!! Brilliant to see this activity - they just needed a little push to help them decide. And it worked!
Now,you hopefully get your nest here AND a martins nest too!!!
