Hi All!!!! Thought I would log in before I sojourn to Goa for 4.5 weeks tomorrow. I have spent the last 6 days replacing 3 cables to existing nestboxes and future proofing boxes by burying 50mm plastic pipe under flags by the gate to take cables. I now have a sparrow box under the eaves nearby next doors sparrow colony (thanks for the direction Paul) and have set up my DVR that now displays 11 nest box cameras! ( my robin kettle is refusing to connect but i think its the old camera ) So I only have the one rooster but I live in hope with a new large Blackbird box in the ivy, the Robin Kettle and and the new Sparrow box! The log box that was intended for Coal tits and was chosen by Blue Tits (before predation of female) was completely waterlogged on inspection last week. So it has been replaced with a cheap standard box. The Beech log nest box burnt well on my log burner for 4 hours so was not wasted! In general terms I have never witnessed such a paucity of birds over winter in my garden for 25 years!!!! Now this last week I have seen more Sparrows, Starlings, Coal, Blue and Great Tits returning which is reassuring but my garden has been a desert since last October ! Anyhow, here is to a good season for everyone! I have 11 camera boxes all displays on my kitchen TV (well 10 until the Robin Kettle gets sorted) and livein hope!!!

Wishing you a great season ahead P.s have a great time in Goa!

Hi Benn, Wow you deserve many nests this spring. ππ€ I am hoping for 1 BT nest at least. I've put the others up to try to entice a GT to move in but they seem a bit thin on the ground in my garden How do you get all those feeds through to your tv/pc? Sorry you've probably answered this previously. I'll have a look in past posts. Good luck with the blackbirds and robin nests. ππ€

There is then a HDMI cable from the DVR to the TV. The DVR can display the feed from 16, 8 or 4 cameras in a multitude of combinations or a simple click on the mouse over one of the feeds and the whole single box fills the screen. I have another little box that takes the sound from 8 cameras as obviously you can only send one sound channel to the TV. Hope that makes sense. The DVR also records the feed from all boxes and can fit a weeks worth of recordings from all the boxes. I set it to record when it detects movement in the box. So I can go back and quickly see if there have been any visitors.

Hi Benn I hope you are having a great holiday...I am posting this now while I still remember so no rush to answer. It will keep till you get back.πΆπI trawled through old posts and found the make of your DVR. I just need an 8 channel one that will take the leads from my wired cameras (5 up to now) Just wondered if you would recommend the make you have. I must admit all the abbreviations used for all the connections and all are a bit confusing I wish they would use plain OAP languageπ€£

Just back from 5 weeks in Goa. Missed all the bad weather and today is very spring like up here.
Only action we have here is a pair of Blue tits busy cleaning out the poo from the box at the side of our house "Blue tit box" in which the male was roosting when we went away. Interestingly he has stopped roosting there.
He is also checking out the sparrow box I fixed high up on the same wall.
There was another blue tit at the entrance of my shed sideview box this morning but I am not sure it was our tits as the ones that come to the feeders in our back garden are different from the ones at the front of the house, if that makes sense.
No starlings but there are a few sparrows about near the feeders but far less than last spring.
Fingers crossed for at least one nest here.
Will read the other threads once I am sorted.

A most frustrating couple of hours!!! The camera in my Robin Kettle would not work and as I had a cheap old camera in there I took it out and tested it to find it was on the blink. So just before going away I ordered a refurbished Sony 700 one from Green Feathers. Just tested this and it did not work. After half an hour of diagnostics I have come to the conclusion that one of the eight brand new cables I laboriously routed through house walls, under flagstones and along 5 metres of fencing is faulty !!!. Should have tested them all first!!! So there is another couple of hours job which involves removing all the sealants in the house wall pipe and the one running under the flags. Luckily no flag lifting this time

Just a pair of blue tits PAul checking out all boxes but the usual blue tit box down the side of the house looks the best bet.
The male was roosting in there before we went away but not now. The female was in their Tues to Thurs cleaning out is poo and the odd feathers he had shed.
Nothing today as the weather has turned wet and windy!
Hoping the sparrows will adopt the sparrow box mounted just across the eaves of next doors house where there are several nests!
No starlings though, might buy some more fat balls from B&M bargains tomorrow as they seem to like them.

Ah Benn...that's really annoying about the cable. Hope it's a quicker job than you anticipate. Frustrating for you. Good luck with the fix.

Hi Amanda,
No I have The Sony Effio 700TVL's. Therefore the replacement cable just cost me Β£7 off Ebay. Just got around getting it all sorted today. Not a difficult job, but just time consuming pulling it through underground pipework, then through the house wall using the old cable. All done now.

Was just checking through the motion alarms on my DVR and came across this visit at around 10am this morning to my Sideview box on the shed. Think it is a Nuthatch but this one has a white stripe instead of a black one. I have never seen one in our Garden on the feeders etc. Sorry about the quality but it was only there for about half a second, so I had to slow down the recording 4 times to get this.

That looks like a Wren to me Benn, Could be wrong but wren's do have that little bar above the eye and it is showing as a brown bird on your camera.
