Double visit from my Great Tits this morning. From start to finish on this visit the total time was 21 minutes. The rooster is first in the box, I know this as ‘she’ has a white dot by its left eye. So the second bird in stayed in the box for 20 minutes. Would a male do this and nest wriggle too?

I think the first bird is the male Amanda, Showing normal male behaviour of looking out for female and going when she comes in. I mean a male could be nest wriggling I have seen the male blue tits doing it, But males don't tend to spend much time in the box. Where the female does, I have never watched GTs though just going by blue tits of course. I'm sure people like Pete could help you out on this though.

Wow Ananda what lovely footage. I have never witnessed great tit early nesting behaviour 😢😢but if they were bluetits I'd say the first bird was the male and the second the female.

Lovely footage Amanda, Paul is right second bird is female, also male GTs have a broader longer black stripe down their chest as your male does.

Thank you all.....I thought that the one that stayed in for a long time would have been the female, it was confusing as I thought the one with the white dot on its eye is the GT that roosts at night and it keeps the box clean. I will take a closer look tonight... Here they are this morning I have also had a visit from a blue tit in my newest box near the shed, I should have an LED light for this box in the next day or two

Here is my great tit rooster, it’s a bit difficult to see as the infrared has just kicked in, but I’m sure it has a white dot on its left eye

I love your clear pics. I drive myself mad trying to tell my birds apart. I must admit I can't see the white dot but I'm only viewing on a small screen.

There has been a fight in my tree box with 2 Great tits this evening. The first GT isn’t my usual rooster, no white dot by the left eye and went to sleep in a totally different place in the box. The GT to come in second was my usual rooster, with the white dot by the left eye (now named Dotty) After the fight, Dotty returns to the tree box and is now currently asleep. I’m not sure if Dotty is female or male. I did think it was a female, she has roosted in the box since November 2019 and is very clean. The video I put up the other day of the double and 20 min visits, the consensus was that Dotty was a male. Definitely Dotty with the white dot, roosts it the box at night. Is anyone as confused as me?

Oh I wish they wouldn't fight! Dotty is definitely a male, shows typical male behavior, also has more colour then its mate and broad black stripe down chest.

I will have to rethink names He is a clean male then, keeping the box poo free. Not seen too much of them today, it was windy this morning and snowed for the past few hours, not sticking on lower ground. I hope you missed of the awful weather yesterday Karen? It looked horrendous in Yorkshire Here is our local weather cam

Lucky you getting snow Amanda, The usual rain in Liverpool hasn't been cold enough this year for us to have snow to be honest, Hopefully carrys on like that for a march nesting season.

Your lucky having a clean male, mine is a mucky beggger , he is in now all safe and dry. The weather has been horrendous here, wet windy and very cold, but still keep getting visits, but not as many like on calmer days. Really looking forward to spring

Beautiful clear footage Amanda. Things looking very promising for you. Wish I had a female rooster - my box is a real mess . Your boxes and set up look worthy of any nestlings that come your way. Good luck Sue

I had the most awful blue tit fight in my garage bird box this morning. I’m shocked how violent they are! They fought for over 4 minutes! Since then, there have been visits in my house and shed boxes! I wonder if there will be a rooster in any of them tonight? Here is the fight - its graphic but nature I guess

I have a confession to make to Amanda & everyone else who posts videos of blue tits fighting. I watched the first one uploaded a while ago of a big fight & like you all - I was very upset to see how awful they are! Since then, I don't watch them anymore as I decided to "bury my head in the sand" instead.

I’m still shocked at the intensity and duration. Thankfully I have a rooster in the box all tucked up.......I just don’t know who it is! I hope I don’t have any more fights, I have 2 other boxes empty!
