Do you think it was a magpie raid Sammi? I've no idea. It's a tiny hole. I've no looked right into the nest yet to see if there are any more egg shells in there. I suppose it's safe to investigate?

Thanks GBH and Sue. Yes when I noticed how quiet it was I thought maybe I'd spooked them? Such a shame but the pair are still around so maybe have started again somewhere. .

That's a real bummer Sammi even worse than my 2 eggs laid in nearly a fortnight, at least there's a little hope for me that something positive might happen.
Hopefully it's not too late for them to start again?

Sorry I posted the video and then was called away to the kitchen. So last night after the female had retired to bed in the nest and the male had gone to his roosting box. They had been in bed about 10 minutes when this happened in the males box. After this a beak appeared in the females box but she didn't wake and then I assume he decided to roost in the box at the other end of the fence to the nesting box. I am waiting to see what happens tonight??? So far the female is asleep and the male hadn't turned in last time I checked.

Looks like she's territory defending Sammi! It's the male disturbed in his slumbers Beechnut I can only assume it's another male to be out so late 🤣

Just shows that I have a lot to learn about BTs ! They all look the same to me still.🤣 First time ever I've had 3 roosters. I'm only assuming the visiting bird was a male and that the bird that roosts in the patio box is the partner to my nesting female. I've never seen such shinanigans but then I've so much time to study the goings on these days🤣

Sorry to read about your Robin Sammi. Looks very similar to one of the Blackbird eggs taken by magpies last season. I am dreading this happening to my Robins in the can. Robins do have 3 clutches per year so be assured they will be building somewhere else.
good luck with your roosters!

Certainly your male was very much protecting his territory, have there been any repercussions since or all nicely quiet? Sue

You sure its not 2 females 1 male sammi? Seems a little late into the season for a new male to start roosting doesn't it

Well folks only two roosting tonight. My female in her nest and who I assume is her partner in our patio box. The other one I assumed was a male and although he was only there a couple of nights the mess he left supports my thinking.🤣 It happened shortly after the Thursday 8pm clapping and I'm wondering if he had been frightened out of his roost by some nearby noise. There were fireworks going off as well as the clapping and bells etc. Anyway looks like he's been politely asked to go back to where he came from🤣 It would have been nice to see another female roosting. Our roosting box has had the occasional cleaner go in but she seemed very nervous I'll see if I can find the clip. My head is all over the place at the moment 🙄

I found the clip of the cleaner in the roost box who froze for a good few minutes when a visitor poked their beak in. Hasn't been much action that box lately apart from the roosting male.

Hi Paul The nesting female is doing a grand job. Going for best decorated nest award 2020. So many feathers going in. No egg yet though. Will try to get a photo on later . Don't know where the time goes? Finding it hard keeping up with all the updates on here!🙄 Had bits of activity around the box where they started to build at the beginning and then abandonned. I'm thinking I would love two nests but not till everyone on here has got one🤞🤞🤞
