Is there a settings menu for the sound were you can try different things, i have no experience with stand alone DVR's so im only guessing, my setup is on a computer with DVR cards.

Great Video Sammi. I have sent you a pm re the sound from the DVR. There might be another thing to check under HDD to look at if those steps do not work for recordings.

Sammi, if you tell me what make and model camera you have, I will have a look to see how to get the audio up and running. The sound settings are normally on the camera, but you need them to be recorded so you have that bit sorted. I love your video of your blue tit trying to get the stick out

Hi Amanda I thought I'd answered this but I think I got distracted (sorry)and didn't press post🤣 My cameras are all wired garden nature ones and are a variety of specs and to be honest I don't know which one is in which box. Sue, I know I think it came in a couple of times too. So funny to watch. Pete yes I think I've ticked all the boxes to allow audio but who knows. I'll keep persevering with all your suggestions. Such a great support team on here.

Hi Sammi,
Just on the sound.... if you have a HikVisin DVR, which I think you have, it uses a BNC cable - so just in case you are not aware, there are two types of CCTV BNC cables.
The first type of BNC cable just comes with video capabilities, so it looks like one cable with two heads on both ends.... a BNC connection and power connection.....one powers the camera, the other supplies the visual feed.
But an video/audio CCTV BNC cable has a cable that splits into three heads.... a BNC connection (Video), a power supply, and an RCA male jack (Audio)
You plug the BNC into one of your DVR channels, the power supply for powering your camera, and the third connection you need to plug into an audio input port at the back of your DVR.
If you do not have both the BNC and the RCA jack plugged into the back of the DVR, then you won't get any sound, just visuals.
Maybe you have done this, but I thought I'd just pipe in as a starting point....
I have seen some DVRs that do not come with an audio input port at all??? and some DVRs come with just one audio input, like mine.
As an example, all my cameras have audio capabilities, but as I only have a 4 channel DVR, for some reason, it only comes with one sound input port so I can ever only have one camera with audio feed on at any one time...leaving the other three without sound (big flaw in my opinion, but seems to be the norm?)
I've often had to unplug the RCA jack on one camera, and plug in the other one quickly, when I've activity going on in both boxes. Really annoying system, but there you go!
It seems for HikVision DVRS that if you have an 8 channel DVR, it comes with two audio inputs, and if you've a 16 channel it comes with 4 audio and so on. I dont' know why???

BNC & DC cable - Video and Power supply only BNC, DC & Audio cable.

Oh, and another thing I just remembered.
If you have all the above already in place i.e the three headed BNC cable....
Another very important point with the HikVision software is that you have to make sure you have the birdbox cable connected up to the correct channel at the back, that provides the audio.
Although the ports may all look the same at the back of the DVR, if, like my DVR which has only 4 channels and only one audio input, then when I scroll down through the menu setup, I can see the set up options for each channel which highlights that they are not all the same.
When you go into the options, it says something like: Channel 1: Video setup, Channel 2: Video setup, Channel 3: Video setup and then suddenly one will say Channel 4: Video/Audio setup... (Note: This is from memory and not the exact words!!!)
So ensure that you also have your BNC cable connected up to the channel that provides the video and audio.
In your case you have 8 channels, so perhaps on the software set up options, only two channels will have the Video/Audio setup options. Look out for them.

Thank you so much GBH for all your help. Yes I've got everything in place. My cables are av split video, audio and power. The video goes into the dvr via a BIN adapter and audio straight into the white audio socket. On mine channel 1 is video and audio. I've swapped a couple of cameras around to check the fault isn't in the box but so far no joy. I'm getting some audio but it's sort of white noise type sound. I've checked all the settings to make sure audio is enabled and the only thing that I could change is resolution but honestly don't know anything about that and when I tried each one it didn't seem to make a difference. I'll try today to get some support from Hikvision. Thanks to you and all the kind folk for the patience and advice I've received. Meanwhile my lady rooster decided last night to change boxes so who knows what today will bring. Take care.🙂

Right.....one more suggestion - can I suggest you put the audio jack into the red "audio in" socket?
The white socket is usually set up for "audio out"...and this is not the one you want.
See if that works?

Fantastic!!!! Delighted to have helped!!! Brilliant!!! Hope you didn't mind me going through the hardware steps....had to start at the very beginning though, as in my experience of troubleshooting, its always something basic that is missed at set up stage that causes the most common issues. ha,ha!!! Anyone ever watch "The I.T Crowd": Really looking forward to seeing your videos...now with surround sound!!!
