Thanks GBH and Beechnut. Yes they do seem to fair badly in open fronted boxes. We have pans to build them a bit of a fortress around the box for next year. Like a little shed around the nest box with a wire front. If I had put the camera on early that day I probably would have caught the culprit. Any ideas who it might have been? No doubt my new camera will arrive tomorrow now.

What a sad sight Sammi Could of been a number of things, Magpie, Cat, Squirrel. Even a Rat sadly, That happened to our Robin nest a few years ago, Rat wiped the full lot out literally picked them up and took it with it and kept coming back and finally upturned the nest. My guess would be, Cat, Rat or Magpie.

Oh Sammi, that's devastating news for you as well as the poor robins.

Awful news Sammi poor things and disappointing for you too. Just have to put it down to nature but hopefully the defense mechanism may prevent it happening next year

Thanks for all the support folks. I must admit the nest failure has left me a bit low so I think I'll sign out for now and pick up again next spring when hopefully everything will be back to a good normal. Take care of yourselves and each other and 'see' you all next year.
