These youngsters are born late in the year and dont have enough time to put on the required weight to make it through hibernation, they can be found from September right through to December and onward. Ideally an hedgehog needs to be around 600 grams to survive hibernation, any less than this will really struggle. Hedgehogs are nocturnal so any seen out during daylight hours are poorly and need rescuing. If you find a hedgehog out in the daytime use gardening gloves to pick it up and place it in a high sided box and put it in a warm quiet room, provide food and water and seek advice asap. Many of these Autumn juveniles will have lung worm and other internal parasites which can kill them if left untreated. www.hedgehog-rescue.org.uk/cms/find-a-rescue/ www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/first-aid/www.arkwildlife.co.uk/Wildlife/Post/179/Autumn_Juvenile_Hedgehog_Care.html
