finally, I've seen evidence of nesting from the great tits, she was collecting wool this morning, she headed for the trees, no one has bird boxes around here and i dont get them nesting in mine. but its good to know we will have more great tits around my garden in the next few weeks. as for anything else happening ive decided to realise I'm not going to get any nests this year, but who knows a great tit may have a 2nd brood in one of my boxes. im going to go back into the other room and carry on with my jigsaw, ive spent so much time being rooted to the spot, just looking out the back window for a glimpse of hope My season probably finished a while ago longer than i want to admit really, ive tried to stay positive but a nest is not to be

She could be nesting in a more natural place Ann, Hole in a tree or hole in someone's wall or something like that.

Ann, when you said about Jessie nesting and taking wool in, I misunderstood, I thought it was in your nestbox . So sorry Ann, that’s why I was so excited for you. Bit like you Ann, I kept trying to be positive but given up hope now. No visits, no sign of anything . We’ll have to have our no nesters club again. These are for you Ann to cheer you up . Sue

Sue i think it was my wording that you misunderstood. i was feeling hopeful when i saw the great tit checking out different boxes, i must say I'm not surprised as most years they seem to go off somewhere else. i have given up watching and not had any cameras on, i believe the blue tits have gone else where. i would like to know the reason why they don't take my boxes, then maybe i could change whatever the problem is for them. Like you say we will need a new thread just for us. its the lack of birds as well here, plenty during the winter then the numbers lessen at the crucial time for us. well i will be checking in to read the updates, but i dont think i will be adding anything else to mine this is for you, if only i could wave a wand and change things for you before we run out of time.

im sat watching both the blue tit and robin sitting in the hanging basket together taking the mesh for their nests. also the great tit is busy taking the wool for her nest. the garden cafe continues with them all going to the feeders. later i will watch where the blue tit is heading its in the opposite direction to the normal, think both the blue tits and great tits have gone for a natural home this time i have seen the hopeful male looking at a box also, but im sure there isn't a 2nd lady around for him. i didn't make a good estate agent

Ann it sounds like you have at least some nesting behaviour to watch.I think it a reward in itself seeing them using materials we've put out for them. Hope there is a lady in waiting somewhere. 🤞

I agree...so they don't nest at ours, oh well....but at least they are getting assistance from us. We helped!!!
I spoke to a neighbour yesterday (from well across the road!) . She has 32 lambs and more arriving...and she said she going to give me a bag of wool for the birds nests. She'll hang it on the gate the next time she is passing....so looking forward to that.
So, even if I don't see a nest being built at mine, I will get some joy from watching them taking the materials and heading off.

Yes, lovely to feel we’ve helped in some small way. Just a shame they didn’t choose us for their ‘home’ this year. Sue

i know, good boxes just sitting there, i haven't seen my wren so he would be my last hope if he returns and decides to nest this year he has plenty of choice now i can look forward to seeing new fledging from great tits and blue tits come to my feeders

Maybe the birds in your area just like the more natural boxes Ann, Wasn't your log box successful for a few years running? Maybe look into getting a new log box and see if they take to that again, If they do you know they go for the more natural theme.
