Yes, as you know, I'm experiencing the same lull over here across the water...for days I've had not visits at all. Hard to imagine why? But amazing to know that it does not seem to be specific to one location...its a general slow down or 'pause' across both nations!
Is this the time they take to actually do the 'mating' I wonder???....so, they've chosen the boxes, did a little bit to secure them and make sure they are happy with their choice, now they are off taking the time to 'get busy' with the partners and once the 'deed' is done, they'll be back to carry on building.
Could this be it???

I'm not sure if they are actually mating during this period - I think they might have to do that just before each egg - but I do think that they scope out the available boxes, "decide" on one, and then go off and feed up and wait for conditions to be just right before starting on a nest. So I think lots of visits, followed by a quiet period of a couple of weeks, followed by a nest (if you are lucky) is quite a normal sequence of events. Obviously some people get more consistent action than others, but I have never had a huge amount of visits/roosting etc. I also think that the moment they decide to nest can be heavily influenced by local food sources (e.g. oak trees for us), not just location in the country/how mild it is generally. Fingers crossed for all of us! Definitely too early to be losing hope yet.

Keep faith all of us, our turn will come very soon, think its that we have to much time on our hands just now and are more aware of the birds and what they are getting up to or not in our case. soon we will be posting about our nesting birds

Don't give up yet Ann, I always say give it until the 3rd week of April, If you aren't getting visits then unlikely to happen unless you get a very late nester or one thats been disturbed elsewhere. (Which does happen sometimes) You've still got a few weeks to play with yet, some people on the forum haven't seen building start until today so things should really get going over the coming week as we go futher into April.

That is good news Ann, If they had plans in other boxes they wouldn't really be visiting yours. So visits still happening is only a good sign!

Such a glorious day here, I’m sat outside staring at my boxes. One visit to inside the side view box this morning from male blue tit not another thing all day. Such a weird time, so worried now that nothing has started here

Was the female around when he visited Ann? Do you know of any of your neighbours who have nest boxes in the garden?

Atleast you have that on your side then Ann, The BT's do always seem to visit of morning then gone all day though. Even during the early stages of building its always material in morning gone all afternoon with limited visits, Then you see them more than more serious building begins. Looks like next week is going to be gorgeous weather in regards to temperatures and sunshine so fingers crossed if gives them a kickstart for you.

Predicted warmer weather might help Ann. This morning our female emptied what little moss she had brought in this last week then this afternoon we had an hours flurry of building. Although its a mild 17C at the minute up here on the hills it is cloudy and blowing a gale so feels a lot cooler! Our planned private BBQ for two was cancelled, chicken now in the oven and heating just switched on!

The waiting is torturous alright... day after day, wishing, hoping, then you are given a glimmer of hope for second when a bird pokes its head in...it is the ultimate patience game.
I really do hope this next week brings great progress for everyone here.... its not nice when you're watching everyone elses nest being built and you are just staring at bare planks...so disappointing. I have everything crossed for everyone.
These bird have us gone bonkers.

Awww Ann there is still lots of time, I’m so wanting my great tits to nest in my tree box, they are showing no signs yet! This past week, I have found that I am rarely seeing the birds during the day, I guess they are fattening up ready for nest building......that’s my theory anyway! My fingers are crossed for everyone to be lucky and get a nest
