no further sitings of the great tits and blue tits, nothing on the feeders for almost a fortnight, its been very strange time. i hope they return soon i hope when it turns cooler, they will. august 16th we have had several days of loads of rain and cooler temperatures, no sign of any birds at all not even the blackbirds. think the have gone into lockdown, I'm so hoping whatever happened to my regular blue tits and great tits, that they will show up again, never known it ever like this, its crazy that i can be so twitched about them, i love to watch them back and forth to the feeders. i hope they return i can't image a new season without any, its bad enough not having a nest.

Very quiet here in my North Yorks garden too, although there are GTs and BTs up in the trees as I can hear them but they arnt coming to the feeders, but I am guessing thats because there is lots of insects up in the trees. But the I remember last few summers in August it goes quiet in the garden around the feeders, my synopsis is that the babies have become independent along with lots of natural food plus the moulting season all this adds up to less activity in our gardens, Im sure when we get into September October normal activity will resume.

I'm sure they will be back Ann, Bloody wish our feeders was having a slow period, Eating me out of house and home! My feeders always seem to have a slow period during spring though, When birds are off nesting and stuff. Time we get into June though its a different story!

Hi Paul its seems daft to get bothered about, but it is so so unusual for this amount of time, not even early in the morning, my eyes are going crossed eyed keep looking. i was certain they would be back after the rain and temp cooler, i hope they haven't perished in the 38 heat two weeks ago. i have seen some sparrows in the tree first thing and the robin, usually he is a busy visitor.
i will keep looking and hoping, i walked around the meadow and lakes and wished i could bring all the birds back from off the feeders there, my family would think im bonkers getting so bothered about a lack of birds

FINALLY, after a very long pause the birds are back visiting my feeders, it’s so good to see them again. As temps change I hope to see much more and not just a visit at the start of the day its a joy to see them again, happy days ahead they are busy, they will be stocking up on my fat cake block for the winter

Ann, so far so good & we are both safe so thanks for asking. What I'm doing to fill some time up is carrying on with researching my family trees, so plenty to keep me going. Some of my D&D's (dead & dusties!) keep hiding from me, so I'm in Sherlock Holmes mode & determined to find 'em!

How funny Ann, we both started nearly the same time! I started in 1994, going to Wakefield Archives every week for my Mum's Yorkshire line for a few years. Had to wait until I got a computer in 2000 to do my Dad's Cornish line though, but I also do my husband & son-in-law's trees. Good news about you finishing work, just in time for Christmas!

Thats sounds so interesting....my mother actually started doing the same about 15 years ago...very, very interesting.
Anyway, glad to hear the birds have returned. Lovely to have life back in the garden.
