Think I've mentioned this before Ann but I use two Scott feeders but to keep Starlings out had to tape up the hole plate bt's go in at the top, and make squares smaller with cable ties and it worked. I also have a globe feeder for nuts etc in the winter and this keeps out squirrels etc. It was expensive but really worth it as it's sturdy and only little birds get in. I like Starlings but they are greedy so just throw some scraps on the lawn with mealies that have gone off on warmer days.

hi kathy in the end i took all feeders down, we have so so many starlings with their chicks descend on the garden. its finally quiet and my feeders have gone back up, i have missed seeing my great tits robins, blue tits. the only thing that i found worked was my ground feeder, with ties on every section so the little birds were able to get in. i will look at a globe feeder, and invest in one, its worth paying out if it keeps the starlings away was it a garden nature one i do have squirrels but all my cage feeders they don't bother with now, they just dig holes in my pots and lawn. thanks for your advise

Ann this is my Scott Feeder modified to admit nothing larger than a Great Tit. I've used garden plastic covered wire from Wilko's to stop access to the feeding dish which is a Yeo Valley yoghurt container set into the bottom of the cage (cage cut to fit the container). It is set 6-7ft up in my plum tree, no more than 12 yards from the nestbox. I can easily replenish the mealies without taking it down by using a washing conditioner plastic ladle. I can honestly say that nothing has been into that feeder other than GTs for the two or three years it's been out there. And the starlings don't even assemble their young in a line across the top of the fence panels waiting to be fed any more. My GTs use the feeder all the time making round trips in around 15-20 secs.

I have some cable ties around the layer just above the dish on my scott feeder, So nothing can pop its head in and grab it. Like this, Never had problem with sparrows, starling or anything but a blue tit getting in (got a 25mm nest box plate on the front.

Ann I hope you managed to sort the feeder and that it kept the Starlings out! I taped over the hole because tits always went in at the very top contrary buggers! Anyway just saying goodbye for the season. Stay safe and keep well. Kathy x

everyone Well, that is the end of the season, I've enjoyed reading all the posts about successful nests and fledging. i wasn't lucky this time, but hopefully next season i will be having a new arbour arch and resiting my sideview box ready for hopefully some positive action. and my other box with the camera, ready for the autumn. . When i return i will have retired, i took the plunge and informed my headmaster this week.i leave at October half term. i decided that for the last 4 months i have managed at home without the freedom of coming and going, and found things to keep me occupied. i have been at the school for 22 years, so it will be a sad last day, i will be going in for readers and lunch and to do the garden set up at least once a week.and check the bird boxes also i will have a new grandchild in December, Stay safe and hopefully we will get chance to enjoy the summer.

Enjoy the rest of the summer. Glad you've made the choice to retire, life's too short and there's lots to fill your time with, especially the new arrival in December x

A bit concerning, since the very hot day on Friday 38 degrees here I have not seen a bird come to the feeders, or should i say not seen a bird at all in the garden I’m sitting here looking and hoping today they will be back. i know there probably is food around but i just seems strange why after that hot day, hope they haven't come to harm from the heat QUESTION is there an adapter lead that i can buy so i can see both cameras on the screen at the sametime and not have to change channels, Thanks

Not even early breakfast visits, but I’m sure all of a sudden they will be back from their vocation
Thanks for the link Karen, I can flick channels easily enough, thought it would be good to see them both together
