Lovely to see your pics Pete. Glad your cleaner is back. By coincidence this morning I had a cleaner in my rooster's box. She (I am assuming) took out a few deposits. So is this the mate to my male (messy) rooster or will this mean another battle at bedtime is on the cards? Or is the male doing a bit of spring cleaning in the hope of getting a mate interested in that box.??? I am in the process of trying to distinguish between individuals but it is not easyš¤£š¤£

Its usually the female that cleans up, i can see the difference on my BT's by the markings around the nape of the neck, and i'm pretty sure the male has a more vivid colour to him. So check your birds neck markings sammi you might see a difference.

Thanks Pete I'll check them out. I've been looking at the eye bands of mine as I've noticed differences in individuals but not sure if it's a difference in sexes. I also see differences in the shape of the caps When they are nesting I can see colour differences especially in the cap but when they just pop in this time of year on their own they confuse meš¤£š¤£

Well its all been happening in the side view box today, in the first Vid i'm pretty sure the first bird is my cleaner the second bird i think is my rooster if you look closely my rooster has a wider blue neck band and colors are more vivid. Judging by my rooster and a messy box its a male and judging by the color difference and markings the other bird is female ( i'm guessing here }, why would a male bird chase away a female?. Then again i could be totally wrong about all this.....questions ...questions.

Pete, Really strange if he is doing that to a female I did notice it wasn't real "fighting" though it was like he wanted to get her out the box but didn't want to harm her. In that first video he was just nudging her at first, I don't know what to make of that very strange behaviour from a male to a female, Little female looked like she was taking an interest in that side box aswell!

Had another fight go on tonight at roost time, i wont put up the vid cos its a full on nasty one. Late this morning had a new bird enter the box ( male i think ) so it could have been my rooster and the new bird fighting..... i'm guessing.

Itās really horrible isnāt it Pete, especially if there are other boxes free! Who would have realised how vicious they can be and what happens behind closed doors! I donāt have a rooster in the garage box now after the fight. I am having visits from BTās but different ones, just trying to keep track on who they are, there is at least 3 blue tits......itās all very confusing I hope it settles down for you Pete and they sort it out soon!

It certainly is battle season isn't it. Hoping they all get sorted soon. At least it means there are a few prospective nesters around.ā¹š

Hi Pete Iām thinking that first video is defo a female & I think that the male was wanting to mate which has been said, but videos 2 & 3 I think is maybe 2 males fighting for same box, and if itās behaviour is mimicking a female which is what is leading everyone down the wrong route, we must remember that iv had males which do ānesting wigglesā & mimicked other female traits! Just my thoughts I do hope you donāt have anymore nasty fights though Pete, they are certainly awful to see Elle xx

Still getting visits from BT's and GT's females in the same box, both doing nest wriggles. But no nest material, and my male BT is no longer roosting in that box.
