Couple of short vids of Bob being fed, unfortunately my robin nest got predated yesterday sometime during the night or early morning, the box was really old and the wood was probably rotten shame cos the chicks were coming on really well, anyway after noticing that about lunchtime i saw the female robin with a bloody great leaf in her beak and then flew with it straight into the nest box that i had a successful brood in last year just outside my back garden door, she did'nt stop all yesterday afternoon building the nest bless her, so fingers crossed the same thing wont happen to this one. This box has a lot more foliage cover, should've taken that old one down years ago.

Ah no...sorry to hear of another Robins nest predated. They seem to be easy targets.
Fingers crossed this next attempt will bring more success..

Blackbirds, Robins and Song Thrushes seem to be so susceptible to predation Pete. Good luck with the second attempt.

Just a thought Pete re the Robins.
You say you noticed the chicks on the 8th April, could they have hatched on the 5th or 6th?
Robins normally fledge after 13 days and all go within half an hour. Like Blackbirds they fledge before they can fly and then skulk around thick undergrowth were they continue to be fed by the male whilst mum starts right away with her second or third nest. Many are predated in this state hence why they go for so many broods.

Yes benn i think you could be right about the hatching on those dates, so by what you say they would only be a few days away from leaving the nest. So i suppose its possible a number of them could've survived the predation.

Lovely videos again Pete. So hope Benn is right and maybe some of the chicks have survived somehow, good luck with her new nest. Sue

Loving your videos this year Pete, Really jealous of all you that get GT's regular, That is one nest I'd love to have just 1 year but sadly we only see two in the garden regular really not a big number around here.

I'm glad your liking them Paul makes all the difference with the lights/colour. Funny that Paul would've thought you'd have more GT's than that considering the amount of BT's you have.

Its weird Pete, BT's glore but hardly any GT's like I said just the two. I love it when they bring the babies every year get a little gang of 6 or 8 then but by winter back down to just the two. I always hope the babies stuck around and up my chances of getting a nest by them in one my camera boxes.

Well it looks like five hatched last night/early this morning, what rotten luck for them though after all this nice weather we've had down south it is now pissing down with rain and its here for a few days i think, could be hard for them to find food, i got a delivery of mini meal worms this morning so i just hope they find them within the next couple of days

Yes, sorry to hear about the Robin Pete, they were voted Britians' favourite bird last year but so many are lost to predation but not on danger list as far as I know. Good luck with the hatching.
