Thanks Amanda, Im afraid we couldnt get her due to the virus, so she has been released by her foster carer in a hog friendly garden with food and shelter, so that is good, but really wish we could have got her back.

Great News on the hatching front then Karen - might be for the best that the other eggs haven't hatched as they will be so much smaller initially and maybe miss out on the feeds, with the inevitable results.
Good Luck with the magnificent 7!

Ahhhhh, that’s a shame that you weren’t able to bring her home. I am sure she will be eternally grateful to you for saving her life

Thanks Paul, all seven are still here they are using the waxworms, I just got another delivery today so pleased about that, also lots of natural food too coming in. It is at this point last time my camera died so all what I am seeing is really a first for me. So lovely seeing Molly and Ron working together and caring for their chicks, such a contrast to Chicos experience!

Karen Nice to see your photo's this season and yes I remember Chico's story very well. They all look smashing and I agree it is wonderful to watch. So many things that are the same each year but never tire of seeing it and sometimes they give you surprises good and bad! It's all a wonderful learning curve.

Sorry, don't know what the black stripe is, I just assumed it's where all the down stems from? Look forward to your updates.

Just got a quick question, sorry if its dumb, but what is the black stripe down the chicks backs that appears after a few days? Karen the black stripe is the beginning of the pin feathers, happens quite quickly when they are well fed, these will become more prominent as days wear on. Looking good from your picture. Also adult looks in fine fettle different to Chico!

Awe thanks for that blueeyedchick, yes she does, poor Chico looked like she been dragged through an hedge backwards, even before chicks came along Just had an emergency dash to the pet shop for waxworms as i realised it is a bank hol, phew they had some That expression is used down here in the East Mids certainly in my home village. Was it a privet hedge Chico went through or Hawthorn? most likely Hawthorn as that is spikey and reflects Chico's coiffure very well! With regards to mealies I was at Pets at Home too last weekend they had one tub left which I bought to tide me over till my delivery turned up from Live foods direct. It's amazing how much the birdies can get through but it does make a big difference to their survival.

Haha, yes we use that phrase a lot in Yorkshire It really does make a difference esp with a lot of mouths to feed, my 3 little ones are still doing ok but I doubt they would without the extra nutrients the waxorms provide, I still not sure if they will keep up with the 4 big ones but their parents are doing a grand job

Quick update: The magnificent 7 are still all here, eating me out of house and home The eldest ones are now starting to preen themselves, also their little white wings bars are coming in on the biggest ones. Eyes starting to open gradually and are all making little sqeaks. Molly and Ron are working so well as a team and will take time out from the kids for a bit of dinner together now and again
