Looks like we are level pegging Karen. Mrs Blue Tit is also up to 10 this morning. However, Mr Blue Tit does not seem bother with her, hence her constant need to leave for food.

Karen forgive me if you’ve already said, but have you got the box up at your residential work place, or in your own garden??

The box with Molly and 10 eggs is in my garden, but the box at work also has blue tits in. I just noticed lastnight one going in, not sure which stage they are at though.

I am losing a battle at the moment against the starlings with the meal worms, soon frustrating!! Molly and Ron just haven't caught on but starlings spot them a mile away. Any tips to get the BTS to notice them. I have the scott feeder up I have also put a dish in a bush they go in to look for bugs, I also have the wire dome that chico used but to no avail as yet. I am about pulling my hair out.

It must be so annoying....I don't know how you'd attract them... maybe a trail of worms to the feeder? And stand by to scare the starlings away.... You could put a sign up?

It also might be the great weather Karen and the abundance of natural food around. While I have the mealies out for the last few days and my BTs have found them, he doesn’t bring her any while she’s incubating, it’s mainly green caterpillars and other bugs......but as for the pesky sparrows They’re eating me out of house and home

I am about pulling my hair out. I had exactly the same problem when I had my nest, Karen. I couldn't get the bluetits interested, and when the starlings saw them they descended en mass and ate them within about 30 seconds. I ended up putting some through the hole of the nest box, do you remember? She did eat them when I did that, but never found them otherwise, not that I would recommend it really although it was desperate times as the male had gone AWOL and chicks were dying one by one.. I guess you really need a completely starling-proof meal worm feeder but that won't solve the problem of the tits finding them.

I put the feeder as close to the nest as possible Karen, If your using the "scott feeder" with a 25mm plate starlings shouldn't be able to get into it, Just use a deep dish for the worms and half fill it. I normally put some cable ties around the back of the feeder just above the dish so nothing at all can get there heads or beaks in.
My scott feeder at moment is around 1m away from Dolly's box and next week i'll hang another one around 1m away from Ditzy next on the garden light next to the box. Normally if blue tit sees something close to its box it will check it out, Always worked for me anyway.

Cheers guys, I do remember Matt, I tried once with Chico and she didnt seem too pleased me throwing a waxworm in! But she found them eventually. Paul I have thought about putting it closer but was worried the starlings would perhaps unsettle Molly while sitting as they are sure to be at the feeder, I think i will tweak the scott feeder and see how it goes. But there does seem to be lots of natural food about, caterpillars and spiders

i like your feeder Karen, was it one online, or brought locally good idea of yours, the starlings annoy me so much when it comes to the feeders

Thanks springtime66, I have had them a while in the garden for decoration candles etc, its only when I had Chico nest that I thought of using them for feeders, they work well with them having quite a bit of depth. I would say they are easy to find online.
