Wow roosters all ready I recall the big bust up in March, can you tell if male or female Paul? Looks great for next year! I am wondering if Molly was the one roosting in the tree box all along and she all ready knew she was going to use it for her nest, it might explain the total lack of activity for almost a fortnight, as I think she was just biding her time until the time was right to build and she was happy with her choice from the beginning. It literally went from nothing for two weeks then early Easter Sunday morning full on nest building with no prior sign:)

Hi Paul,
That's great!
Were these boxes that hadn't been used this year?
Or have you already removed the nesting material?
I still haven't removed mine but wondering when is the right time to do this?

Sparrow update, We have chicks and I am like 90% sure we have 5 in there! Which would be the largest brood they have ever give me. Normally only 4, They did end up with 5 eggs this time though so its likely it is all 5. We will see when they get bigger! New female tried to do a "dome nest" that is why its so messy, However I can still see everything so its fine! GBH, You can clean the nest out, These are boxes that wasn't used. I haven't cleaned my nests out yet, I normally wait for the sparrows to finish and clean them all out together they always make my seasons go into July.

Super Paul, all set up for next season by the look of it! They really know where they are well off I've cleaned Nell's nest out already as I know they won't be coming back for a second go, but will leave my Robin's nest until end of season. I am having that young Starlings visit again 4 times so far so I wonder if it is sizing it up for next year....

Lucky you Paul with your roosters. I have a rooster, been in for about a week now. Is this normal to roost so early? Mine is in bed asleep around 6.45 each evening, which is really early considering how light it is

Little sparrow update, They're around 5-7 days from fledgling now! Sadly we lost 2 chicks during last week, Here in Liverpool we had 4 days on the run of really bad thunderstorms and 1 full day of endless rain. I am guessing due to so much rain it was harder to find food, I tried with mealworms but they wasn't finding them sadly.
But we have 3 healthy chicks left so not all doom and gloom!

Fingers crossed that the weather gets better, I didn't realise it was bad weather they're. Complete opposite down here in the south π€·

Yes Taz, We had worst thunderstorms i've seen here last week, Was pretty much everyday one minute sunny and hot next minute garden fully waterlogged that went on for 3 days, Then day 4 it was just none stop raining from 9am until 10pm south had a lucky escape it seems. Warning for thunderstorms today and tomorrow for us so lets see how these go been raining this morning nothing major though sunny at the moment.

Remaining three chicks looks wonderfully healthy Paul. As Taz says, down here in the south has been wall to wall sunshine, but that in itself has brought problems. Desperately need rain for the gardens and blackbirds struggling as ground so hard. Guess we are never satisfied with whatever the weather brings.

to hear that two chicks died, but you still have 3 which hopefully will be OK & free from any more storms & heavy rain. Same here as Sue - just red hot & humid until today & it's now raining steadily .... the garden was as dry as a bone & I've already lost 2 plants forever, even though I watered the garden four days ago.

Now have two hedgehogs sleeping in the boxes under the front window, They was asleep in same box lastnight. Took this picture on my wildlife camera when I was getting it in, This morning they are both in different boxes asleep the boxes are right next to eachother though. one's been sleeping there for nearly a week now and this is the other ones first day so lets see if that becomes a regular aswell. Also one using the box down the side of the house, I am not openingthat up though because I think she could have hoglets and will move them on or even kill them if I disturb the nest so not even risking that!

Paul - copied my posting in the forum.
Lovely piccie Paul - they both look cute together. Possibly, the new one which turned up is the best friend of the other one, so he begged for a bed for the night? Then the first one told him about the vacant box next door, so no longer having to share, but still close to each other?
P.S. Re my previous message on here about it raining steadily, it flipping stopped after 30 minutes, no rain since & sun is out again, so will have to water the garden again this week.
