Hi all, Loads of activity here at the moment, Mainly around one of my side view boxes and the purple "tree box" (seems my most successful box) I currently have 5 roosters, 4 blue tits and our female sparrow. One of my female blue tit roosters (side view box) as been bringing material in since August when she started roosting, She is still bringing bits in now so that is looking promising. Female sparrow is also bringing bits of straw in nothing major yet but looks like i'll have another year of the sparrows which is great. Purple box is getting endless visits by a pair of blue tits at moment, I'll probably start getting pictures and videos over the coming weeks! Hope everyone as a successful 2020 when it comes to the birds! Hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and new year aswell. Crazy that its nearly that time of year again isn't it? I know most of us wish the year away once breeding season finishes though!

Paul, it's great to see you back with all your latest news about having 5 roosters still with you. Things look very promising, so I hope all the nest boxes are in full use when the season begins.

All, Happy New year, and good luck to everyone for the 2020 season. I too have roosters, 1 bluetit, & 1 Greatit I’m so excited about . I have taken my garage box down & so now have just a box on fence at the bottom end of garden, now year on year the greatits have always tried to use this box, but have always been chased off by the ‘bully bluetits’, so imagine how excited I am that I have this rooster in this box, just hoping something comes of it i obvs still have my side view on house, high up, but has no rooster, however, I was donated an old box from one of my old neighbours & felt obliged to use it, so it has been put up below my sideview box on house wall, & this is where the bluetit has decide to roost. Both are males by the look of mess, considering all 3 had been cleaned and scrubbed!! I do always do another ‘spit & polish’ before the season starts. I’m already laughing to myself as most people won’t understand my Lingo Elle xx

Just a quick "exciting" update Today a blue tit with a baby blue colour ring as been checking out the purple "tree box" this is exciting because the baby blue colour rings are last years brood and if this bird goes on to use the purple box this year and raises it brood, It will be raising its own brood in the box it was raised itself last year. Got everything crossed it looks like a male how its acting be such an amazing turn around to see him raise his own brood in same box he was raised in last year! I haven't had time to read everyone's threads but i'll check up over the weekend

he stays Paul - as you say, it would be fantastic news for you if he did have his own little family there. I expect he'll start looking for a nice girl in a couple of months!

Hopefully he is the male that owns the area, I am expecting my blue tit numbers to half in the coming weeks when ownership takes over, Happens every year so hopefully the blue ring bird gets ownership!

Was a nasty fight in my side view box tonight (Females been roosting since August and bringing in material since August) This new blue tit came in tonight and all hell broke loose, Our female ended up leaving the box and is now asleep in a box down the wall. The new blue tit which is rather big to be honest and looks really young is asleep in the side box now, I'll have the cameras on all day tomorrow and see the comings and goings from this box. Seems like its going to be an interesting one to watch over the coming weeks!

Yes Karen, Fights are never great to witness! Our female is in and out this morning (can tell its her because her tail feathers are abit scruffy at the ends) so easy to tell her from all my roosters. But she's been back a number of times this morning, So fingers crossed the fight didn't bother her to much!

Hi Paul Things sound so promising for you for nests in spring. I'm so pleased one of your ringed birds is showing interest in a box. I often wonder what becomes of the chicks. Roll on spring.

Thanks Elle and Sammi, I hope things are heating up in your gardens? Both females are visiting the side box this morning, The new one is still cleaning everything out. Going to be an interesting one to watch see who gets the box in the end! Pair of blue tits been visiting my purple tree box all morning aswell, I don't know if this is a different pair or its one of the females and with the male but these two boxes seem to be getting alot of attention the last few days. Lets see what happens over the coming weeks!

Two females currently want this box Karen, One female was roosting since August and bringing material in, This new female had fight with her next 2 days removed everything. The original female is roosting just along the house wall in another box and still visiting the side box daily (can tell her because she's got a very scruffy tail at the ends) So I think come February the fights in this box will be hard to watch, I am dreading that! Hopefully the old female just gives up and uses another side view box or any of my other boxes for that matter, Looks like this side view box is going to bring me the most action over the coming weeks though.
