Hi I love watching my garden birds feed, but the fat balls are making a horrible mess on my lawn where the fat ball feeder is located. The fat balls are leaving a thick fatty film on my lawn. Is there a way around this problem or should I stop using fat balls.

Kevin, I had the same problem with our lawn as it's the pride & joy of my husband! To keep the peace, I moved my "shepherd's crook" holding the fat ball container, to a thin strip of border just far enough away from the lawn. The mess is soon raked over with a little hand-held rake or hand-held fork.
Edit: Since I did the above, I started adding cobbles this year (now that strip is completely covered with them) so that during the Winter when I don't attempt to rake over the mess - it looks a bit prettier!
