Brilliant Amanda! Keep us posted on any other activity in the hog box! Matt, Your box would be perfect for hibernating, You wouldn't even need to add a "tunnel" it would help stop a cat getting in though so maybe for that reason. If you want the box to be only for sleeping / hibernating do not put food inside, Hedgehogs like there own space, They won't sleep in something that is a food source as it will attract other hogs. Believe me they fight over the boxes that is how I ended up with 4 boxes what your best doing is keeping the food one strictly for food and making a second one and filling it with hay / straw you can put food near the house just wouldn't inside. Really hoping you get your first hog soon Matt

Thanks Paul! yeah, if we get a visitor to this box then I'll have a think about a hibernation box as well. Let's see how it goes! I need to get the rest of the nest boxes done first

Overall despite the rain I am pleased with the results. But I will be making adjustments for tonight, shortening the length of video also will also move it in a bit.

Looks OK to me Karen, perhaps some sort of roof over the cam would stop the rain? I got this last night. Interestingly this is as far as s/he got, so perhaps the entrance does work to some extent?

Yes I think that is needed, will figure something out. Poor kitty cant get round the bend so it is kitty proof The hogs will come Matt, silly question perhaps but is there a way for them to access your garden nearby.

How many videos did it record for you Karen? What was the battery like this morning after first night out? Apparently it last a while battery wise seeing is believing though I guess

In total it recorded 8,some were of mice and I think the bush nearby may have set it off when it moved, I had the video length set to 5 minutes, I have reduced it to 3 minutes, I may actually put it down to 1 minute and also to take 1 photo as well. The battery has had one notch off if you know what I mean, hence why I have reduced the video length.

Two sides of our garden were refenced over the last couple of years, and are quite "secure" now, so that could be an issue. There is plenty of room under gates along each side of the house, but not so close to where the box is. What to do?

Yeah I get you Karen, I am thinking about just setting mine up to get videos, Maybe set it at 3mins myself.
Matt, You could make an hedgehog hideway by cutting a hole in the fence etc, They can get through small gaps though. I have metal gates in front garden and that is how they get in, I think the gaps in the gate is around 3/4 inches and they all get through them big hogs and small. I didn't realise until I seen it on twitter that a hog only needs a 2 inch gap to squeeze under as it "flatten" down to get under / through seen it on one of the hedgehog rescue twitters.

Great video Paul, Love the photos from your new cam Karen. Can you see the photos on your phone? The cat made me laugh Matt, at least you know it’s semi cat proof I didn’t get any visits last night other than a cat and slugs! Fingers crossed for tonight

Here is my first hedgehog house. I kept the eco slate the full size so it could be used to cover a small dish of food....that’s my excuse anyway. I won’t use those slates again, they are more trouble than they are worth. I will just use a bigger piece of wood for the roof.

Little Lola loves her bed!

Lola had two naps lastnight the usual hour one, then she came again for 20 minutes later for a 20 minute nap. The pic is her on her 20 minute nap just before she got up. Exciting news too the other hog house has had an occupant, not sure if it was Lola or Gramps. Paul I got some good footage last night, lovely clear pics and videos, only downside I find is the IR is concentrated in a circle in front of camera, and doesn't pick up every movement straight away, Also on the photos it took it displays the temperature and moon phase, apparently at 3am it was 26c, not sure that is the camera temp but definitely not the outside temp.

Love it when they sleep on their side like that Karen so cute isn't it! Looking forward to seeing the videos and pictures Karen, Did less video recording time reduce the battery used?
