1 of the hedgehogs is fully using the hedgehog house now, It comes in for little naps during the night after feeding and its sleeping in there all day. Its currently tucked up under all the straw, Cant blame it weather is shocking.
I'm so pleased that he / she as took to the box straight away, I actually have 2 new hedgehog boxes coming now, Brings it up to 3 around the garden. Won't be here until next week, They're made to order on Ebay.
Hopefully by winter i'll have a few in the boxes, I am pretty sure we now have THREE hedgehogs in the garden can't be 100% sure until I see them all together but judging off their sizes and their behaviour it does look like 3 now.

Things are certainly happening very fast for you Paul with possibly 3 hedgehogs now! It's absolutely great news & it seems you have the magic touch with them as you do with all your birds. I'm looking forward to seeing a piccie of the 2 new houses when they arrive.

Drama Drama DRAMA! in the hedgehog house! So I thought it was our "smaller" hedgehog that's been napping in the box then final sleeping, So tonight I was watching the smaller hedgehog come through the gap in the gate while another hedgehog was still inside the box asleep! Next minute the bigger hedgehog appears meaning 2 hedgehogs outside eatting and one in the box. Then the smaller hedgehog tries to go inside the hog house, The hedgehog in the box started making loud noises to get it out finally the smaller hedgehog went out the box, I then waited for this other hedgehog to appear out the box then it came out a really long hedgehog its belly is touching the floor I don't know if its pregnant it ate some food at this time the "smaller" hedgehog came and see it and ran away (scared of it after the fight in the box) this new hedgehog that is in the box only comes out the box to eat its sleeping in there during night and day! So this confirms 100% now three hedgehogs in the garden, With this new one taken over the hog box. I have two more boxes coming next week so its fine but blimey who knew hedgehogs could bring the drama I read hedgehog breeding season runs until late September, I don't know if we will end up with hoglets or not but fingers crossed! Don't want to get to ahead of myself could just be a hedgehog who likes the box and took over with winter hibernation in mind. Sorry for the super long post, Really didn't expect to be seeing so much drama off a set of hedgehogs!

Brilliant news Paul. Hope your other boxes get occupied.
I saw a local news item on TV about a hedgehog rescue centre a couple of years ago. Mostly they get late born hogs as they struggle to put on enough weight in the autumn before the real cold arrives, so I reckon you will have your work cut out fattening up your hoglets if they arrive!!!

Paul, what a wonderful post you've made - it had me in stitches laughing at your confusion, as I was imagining the look on your face! Great news that you do have 3 of them & I like your description of the "possible" pregnant one. Let's hope the big & little hog start using your 2 new boxes & then you've cracked it.
Like Benn, I always watch the hedgehog rescue centre programmes when they are on, because I love hedgehogs & this love of them has also been passed onto my grand-daughter who is now 21. The "Henry" piccie I put on this thread I took for her & when she received it, she sent me a piccie back of her "Henry" hedgehog, who lives on a window sill guarding her precious cactus plant!

Such a cutie all snuggled inside. What do you think is the best place to situate a house Paul, in a corner tucked away?

Karen, This hog house is literally underneath one of my front windows, Its got a big overhang due to the porch going across the front of the house. The side of the garden is probably the most quiet, But yes just under the window, The front garden doesn't have no bushes or grass or nothing its fully concrete. That is why it took me by surprise they was so active in the front. Seem to like where the house is though so that is the main thing! Latest in "Hog enders" as Karen put it Is the smaller hedgehog as successfully evicted the new one I mean I shouldn't pick sides but am glad the smaller one won in the end, It was the first to use the hog box so it deserved it! Yesterday night the smaller one kept going into the hog box and fighting with the new one, In the end the new one just give up and left! Lastnight the smaller one went back in and was napping away during feeding, Its also slept overnight. All 3 hogs still visiting for food though, I think its going be hard to get video all 3 together though sadly. They all come different times and when two are outside one is in the hog box so tricky one. But 100% three which I am really happy about only started with one 2 weeks ago, The more the merrier Hoping to get the two new hog houses by Wednesday, So I'll have them set up and ready! Hopefully stops the fighting between them. Really enjoying watching them at the moment lovely little animals.

Just caught up with this thread Paul, brilliant! Now I want a hedgehog house!!! I must admit I haven't seen any evidence of hedgehogs in our garden though (we have got a dog), but I might put a bit of food out for a few nights and see what happens. I'm a little worried that I might attract rats though!

I'm a little worried that I might attract rats though! Matt we have had hedgehogs that come into the garden and we have put a hedgehog street in our garden fence, also a homemade house for them which I think needs replacing, not sure how often they come, but our dog barks like cray if she gets wind of them in the garden, so that is how we realised we had them visiting. I put a camera up as I had one spare and was really excited to check the footage later and all I got was a Rat running past the camera I wasnt aware we had Rats around, I know we have mice, but I was a little freaked out seeing a big Rat!

You should put food out and see if you can see anything Matt, I started with 1 hedgehog a few weeks ago we have 3 now, This is from seeing none at all for years. I think it all started by feeding the new cat down the street, They moved in few months ago and cat always comes the front garden, I have my own cats who stay indoors and fed indoors so never put cat food out in the garden. When the new people moved the road I started putting food out for their cat because it always seem hungry, Nights it wasn't there I put cat meat out overnight incase it came through the night or early morning, I honestly believe that what attracted the hogs to the garden. Thanks to the neighbours cat. Been brilliant watching them though, They're such little characters! Another disagreement in the hedgehog box lastnight, The "new" hedgehog once again stayed in the box overnight, Its truly keeps switching up between these two hedgehogs! The two new hog houses are coming tomorrow thank god, I might put one next to the current one as it seems to be an area worth fighting over then put one somewhere else.

Oh let us know if you see anything Karen! Well its finally hedgehog peace in the garden tonight, I put the new black hog house next the current one the entrance to current one is front on and have put the new one at side of current one with entrance facing out side on. Two hedgehogs currently napping away in both boxes no fighting they're neighbours i'll post pictures of the boxes tomorrow literally next door neighbours Its stopped the fighting though the smaller one came back tonight and went straight into the new house (I have cameras in both of them) so peaceful for now The 3rd hog house as been placed at another side of the garden, I put little bowl cat food outside the house hopefully the 3rd one will use this one we will see 2 out of 3 ain't bad so far! Just waiting for hedgehog 4 to appear and f**k up the peaceful setting

Wow - what an update Paul! It's fabulous that there was no fighting over the boxes & peace reigns in your garden. You set me off giggling again though with your comment about a possible 4th hedgehog turning up, don't tempt fate like that as it may happen now. Good luck Karen, I hope you start getting visits to your front garden for the cat food.
