Operation weigh in complete!
The hedgehog weighs 441g. I will weigh it again in a few weeks if it is still here and I didn’t frighten it off. I just weighed it and popped it back in the feeding house. It is still in there at the minute

It is a good weight really, should be able to get up to hibernation weight if the weather holds up.I have read that 450g is the lowest they should be, I hope so. It’s eating the purine turkey and rice biscuits. It’s not eaten any cat meat that I have put out and it left most of the spike hedgehog food. Its going to be reasonable mild over the next week or so, so hopefully it will be able to finish his home. It brought in quite a lot of leaves last night. I leave a pile either side of his house, which he has been taking in just before dawn.

Taking this little one our local rescue, He showed up lastnight and slept in one of the hog houses overnight. He only weights 290g so off the rescue he goes, I'll be phoning for weekly updates on him.

Gosh Paul, a very little one! It is lucky to have found your garden and you to take it to a place of safety for the winter. I read in the paper that the rescue centres are inundated with small hogs due to the mild weather leading to later births.
How are your other hedgehogs doing Paul? How many do you have visiting? I only see one in the garden, who is sleeping in my hedgehog house day and night. I’m keeping a close eye on him, fingers crossed he hasn’t come out to feed in the day again, feeding a lot during the night though. I will weigh him again on Sunday to see how much weight he gained during the week. I don’t know what happened to the massive one that first came and slept in the hedgehog house, not seen that one for about 3 weeks
Karen, how are your hedgehogs?

2 more hoglet's have showed up tonight with a larger hog, All in my big hog house at moment asleep. I weight all of them both hoglets are in the mid 300g's so going to keep them until end of November and see if they gain enough, If not I'll take them the rescue. Bigger hedgehog weight 740g so that is perfectly fine. I'm now thinking the little one that weight 290g is from this family but the other two weight 60g more, Maybe the one I took the rescue was the smallest of them. I'll keep a close eye on these two little ones and weight them weekly during this month. Amanda, My hedgehogs at moment are growing massively on visits, I have new ones turning up nightly. Lets hope these two hoglets gain good amounts, i'll be the talk of the rescue centre at this rate if they dont! Here's a little picture of the two babies and the bigger one in our hog house wasn't very impressed with getting weight Not the best pictures in the world but I had to remove all the hay and straw off them for the picture they was tucked up!

Well done Paul, lucky hogs! My little one who I have called Catherine still visits nightly and sleeps between meals in one of the hog houses, she was 315g at the first weigh, I plan on weighing her again next week to see how she is doing, apparently there is a cold spell coming so hope she doesnt try and hibernate. I still have a large female visit and she naps in the night too but all the others seem to have gone for now so maybe hibernating. I have tried a new food on the hogs they are called Calci worms and they seem to like them, I got them from Ark wildlife, they have a good range of things for birds too. Great service too!

They certainly like you garden Paul......a hedgehog must have put the word out to all the hedgehog community of Liverpool to go and live at yours! Awwww, they look nice and cosy don’t they. I hope they eat lots and make a healthy weight. How many have you taken to the rescue centre so far? Karen, I’m glad you still have visitors. I hope Catherine gets to a healthy weight too. It is absolutely tipping it down here. I have looked at the forecast for the next 2 weeks with this Saturday being the coldest, we have sleet Paul, Liverpool has sleet forecast too for Saturday too. It gets warmer after that.

3 in the last 2 weeks Amanda, All under 300g. With these two being closer to 400g i'll give them a chance, All stayed in the box overnight lastnight. I am guessing its a little family, I won't split them up if I don't need to! I'll weight them weekly if we get to end of November and weight isn't good enough I'll take them then. I seen the weather for over the weekend, Today's been none stop rain here finally went off around 10pm. Atleast this little family have somewhere warm and dry to sleep now!

Two close together underneath one of our front windows by the porch and another 3 at different places around the garden Amanda, All boxes have had hogs in whether it be small naps or sleeping over fully. 3 out of 5 boxes being used at the moment, So am hoping we can get one to hibernate fingers crossed!
Karen, Fingers crossed your little one is gaining good amounts, You'll have to let us know next time you weight it!

That’s really good Paul. I was just asking as I have 3 all in different places in the garden. All have been used for naps. The one in the back garden (and thankfully the one with the camera in) has had 2 different sleepers. The current one who has slept day and night since his first visit, I think will stay as he has brought loads of leaves in now. He hasn’t been as active tonight, sleeping slightly longer between feeds and only just gone for a wander.
Here is Rudey last night bringing leaves in

Just a thought that came to me yesterday any one think this hedgehog thread would benefit from its own forum, dedicated to hedgehogs and all about them, much the same as the bird forum with similar topics like feeding, care, hog houses, trial cams, hogletts, etc but focused on our spiky friends, any thoughts on that? Although I would have no clue how to do that!!

That’s very sad Karen, I saw one on Friday I thought I would check in to see if you had weight Charlotte, I hope you manage it tonight and she has put some grams on! After my last post about Rudey being settled in the box with the camera, that evening he decided to take leaves into one of my other boxes and he slept in there last night! In fact he is there now! I hope he comes back to the house with the camera in. I have bought another one this morning, but it won’t arrive till Wednesday. I sorted out cable to that house on Saturday afternoon, so I can put it in on Thursday as I am A/L. Karen, I like your idea, could we have a separate section on this forum? The sub sections could be as you suggested and if possible carry this thread over....... Is that easy to do Paul?
