Such lazy animals aren't they? My full time sleepers spend 90% time in the box only coming out for food water and to do their business for me to clean up off the floorheehee Not a bad life being an hedgehog

Visited a Apple Weekend event at our local garden centre this morning and the local hedgehog rescue had a stall so couldn't resist getting some bits for a great cause too.

I hope your hedgehogs have appeared back Karen and Paul. The one I have in my house is now on day 3 of sleeping in during the day, it is in there most of the night too, only waking to go for food and water. Ummmm......not so cat proof! I think the turkey and rice cat biscuits were a temptation to far. I have just cut a new smaller door front, the paint is drying at the minute so I will put it on later. Here is a little visitor in the other hedgehog house. I have moved it to a different place now as it was at the side of the shed and hot had any interest from hedgehogs. I have moved it to a corner in the front garden. The times are wrong on my cams at the minute, I need to change the settings....a job for tomorrow when my daughter is at school.

My new cat proof smaller entrance didn’t work! I have made it even smaller today! I’m sure the bugger won’t be able to get in this time! My hedgehog went on it’s travels about 0230ish this morning, so hasn’t slept in the house today. I hope it comes back this evening, I felt quite sad that it wasn’t there today.

1-1 I’m going to sort the internal partition door out next and make that smaller on Friday, or use one of the front doors I made near the inside door!

Thats one determined cat! Very agile too. My feeding station and hog houses just have an internal corridor which wont allow a cat to bend round the corner, so far only mice slugs and hogs have got in.

Yes this has a corridor too, then turn right at the top into the main area. The door at the top of the corridor must be too wide, so I will use one of the door fronts up there I think, or I will remake the partition wall with a smaller entrance to the main area. I really didn’t think the cat would get in there! I had a hedgehog visit last night, I don’t think it was the one that has slept in the box though. I will compare the pictures later when my daughter is in bed. updateI have just put a screw in to fix this as a temporary measure.....This is a real game of cat and mouse!

Our gap is wider but the cats around here are not as agile or just lazy as we havnt had a problem with cats at all. I hope it works this time! We are getting visits still but are coming earlier now I guess with the darker nights.

I will have to change the size of the internal entrance.....maybe do a chicane Im glad you are still getting visits, mine arrived just after 10pm and was in and out of the box sleeping and then left at 0420. Love the video of little and large Paul, it’s good to see them in colour. Matt, have you had any luck with your house?

Hi Amanda, No luck yet. I stopped putting the camera in overnight as it was a bit of a pain (had to charge the battery every day), but I have left the box out with the food and am checking every now and then. Untouched so far, but that does remind me that I haven't checked for a couple of days! Worth a go, anyway - surprised we don't have any to be honest. My next door neighbour did say that she saw one in her front garden last year..

Just got back from walking the dog and around two minute walk from my house there was a freshly killed hog on the road, must have been on its way to its day sleeping place,I dont no if it is one that visited my garden but its broken my heart, was about in tears on the rest of the walk it looked like an adult but hard to say as it was so badly damaged. Little Lola slept in the hog house for a short while last night and had left by morning. I do have an adult visit and which is quite recognisable. It is quite rare to see a dead one on our street as it is fairly quiet and a 30mph speed limit so it was an awful shock to see.

Oh Karen, That is so sad. You'd think people would keep their eyes on the road wouldn't you?! Luckily we have speed bumps right outside our house so the cars really need to slow down by our garden, Not seen a dead hog in years around my way. Anyway more upbeat post after your heartbreaking one Another little video of these two cuties, These are the only two hogs that eat together. The other ones have little fights rolling eachother out the way, But these two don't mind eachother. Trail camera is far away this time instead of close up, I think I prefer it close up though get a better view.

I'm so sorry to read your message about the hedgehog which was run over Karen, I can empathise with you being very upset about it, as I get upset when I find cats have killed my frogs & birds - my garden is full of graves as well as plants as I bury them all (with a flower if possible).
Lovely video clip of yours having supper together Paul!
