My hard drive gave up and I lost pictures and other stuff cos I never saved them elsewhere. I'm now having to remember passwords. Luckily two attempts and I got this one right.

That's a shame Twinkle, or a disaster. I admit I've tried my best to cover everything being backed up, so I saved all my family trees which I research to memory sticks & on the web site Ancestry itself, so the latter always has them for me to download again if necessary.
ALL my photos are also backed up to memory sticks & a spare W7 computer, same goes for all my bookmarks/favourite web sites, all my contacts for email & as for my passwords, this is what I have done.
I typed them all out in Notepad, as I have lots of different passwords for web sites, but NOT the ones for my online banking & my email & broadband account. Then in my email account I created a folder called "Saved" & I sent the list to my email account & then moved it to the Saved folder. Then I deleted the Notepad list from my computer - hoping that any hackers can't access any deleted items from it!
Therefore I have only two passwords committed to memory, my banking one & the one to get me into my email /broadband provider account to access all the others in my Saved folder.
Maybe someone else has better ideas, in which case please tell me as well.

Thank you. I should have known better as I had to do it regularly for work. Managed to get most of the addresses. Every now and again I think of something that might have lost. But no time to worry about it. It's happened, let's hope others have learned by my mistake.
