Reading another thread, we are lucky. We have many, many blackbirds visiting and nesting in our garden, every year. During one count a few weeks ago we counted 23 blackbirds just in the back in one go. They do love suet which I feed throughout the winter and they just hang around every morning waiting for me to fill up the feeder. I cease when it is baby season but they still look through the windows looking annoyed.
My husband accidently found a nest in our front garden laurels yesterday so I waited until mum had popped off for refreshment, squeezed my small camera through the twigs and leaves and snapped this pic.. will be keeping an eye on the nest hoping to catch any youngsters.

Hi Delilah I hope your nest is ok as blackbirds work really hard to protect the nests but then sometimes the odd predator comes along.

Had a quick peep this evening - the nest still has 2 eggs in it and no sign of mum, which is very sad. We have left her alone since last looking when she was sitting (20 May) The nest is quite low and not as well hidden as they usually are - maybe she deserted or she has been got at. We have an excess of crows and jackdaws at the moment.

Oh Delilah, this is so sad, I think Blackbirds are one of the hardest birds to have success, I do love the blackbirds, even if they do pluck my new shoots!

We have about 5 blackbird nests that we can actually account for, behind a shed which is close to a brickwall which in turn is covered in ivy (not counting the deserted one in the front.) We have so many blackbirds it is impossible to count them so we are very lucky.
Whilst I do not put out the suet pellets during the tit-baby season, we have one blackbird who knows exactly which plastic dustbin holds the pellets - he nearly trips me up each morning as I get the duck food out. So I take out a handful of pellets and scatter them near him on the ground - he picks up about 5 or 6 at a time, stuffing his face. He just loves them!
We have more blackbirds nesting in the holly hedges and the ivy at the bottom of the garden.

Curiouser and curiouser..... mummy blackbird is back in the nest and sitting. I had ceased looking but husband says she has been there for some time. I had a quick look and saw a beady eye looking back at me.

3 eggs in her nest now and she is still sitting - can only presume she was waiting until she had laid another egg before properly incubating!

Well Delilah, your blackbirds are really keeping you on your toes aren't they? You think they've gone, then she's back & sitting & now she's laid 3 eggs! I wonder if this is it now - or will she have laid another egg tomorrow?
