Hello everyone!
After a negative nestbox 2018, we have 2 bird boxes at least in occupation this year!
The camera in our only camera box is not connected as we used the connection to set up CCTV.. supposed to be a stop gap but ... anyway lots of nagging might get it sorted. However, we have blue tits back in residence, I have seen both going in but only one is regular, the other stays in, so am guessing she is sitting on eggs. Cannot hear the telltale high pitch squeaking of hungry babies yet.
Another birdbox, further down the garden, is definitely holding great tit babes - they are extremely noisy!
We had heavy hail and thunderstorms today but decided to put away the patchwork quilting and get out with the camera and was rewarded !

I am really jealous, but I wish you luck.
I have three boxes all with cameras, but I only get one box occupied at a time and never by BTs.

Nice to see you back Delilah and as Sue says great to see your lovely photos again. Very lucky to have 2 nestboxes with different birds, pity there’s no nestbox cameras, but your own camera seems to have a very good zoom lens and your lovely photos will tell you everything..........

We have baby blues! Risked it as I heard miniscule cheeping.. climbed ladder, gently lifted lid and stuck camera in not knowing what the pic would be like as I clicked and fled back down the ladder... mum did not appear to mind and dad brought in food as I was climbing down .. so happy!

Delilah, I too join the jealous club, like Beechnut I have 3 boxes, but only ever have one box occupied. You are so lucky icon_biggrin fantastic pictures as always Delilah yahoo_clap I must say you are brave to look in the box, I would have been too scared in case mrs Bt flew out and wouldn’t come back! look forward to your updates Elle xx

Omg Delilah, beautiful photo, but like Elle I would be too afraid to do that in case I caused Mrs BT to panic. I am that cowardly that I am still getting my pics through a window and between blinds . Hopefully I will get some closer soon . Just don’t want to rock the boat now I am lucky enough to have chicks. Sue

Hello! Although we had no birds in our boxes last year (well... we assume we did not!) we always have large numbers of birds visiting, waiting for their food - we feed throughout the year, removing only the suet during baby time.
Over the last few years we have come to realise parent birds are very resilient, the tit families in particular, and as there is always a fair amount of activity in the garden with all the ducks (the ducks' paddling pools are very near the blue tit box siting and they take some cleaning and re-filling every day) and that both my husband and I are often out and about in the garden (both near pre-historic now so not out working) my husband messing around in and around his sheds and me messing about in the greenhouses or general gardening, we think the birds are fairly used to human activity throughout the day.
The blue tits see me every day walking near their box, and take no notice - I was hoping both parents were out at the time and it was only when I looked at the pic I realised mum was in there. But as I said, dad was hopping around my head as I was climbing down the ladder and he went straight in.
Over the years I have come to realise that it takes a great deal for a parent to abandon a nest, and that if they know one is regularly about they get used to you coming and going. The blue tits watch me filling the feeders every morning (along with all the other residents hanging around with their beaks wide open!) and although the tits bring back soft food for their babies, they fill up on the mixed seed.
The great tits are a little more wary, they know when I have my camera and watch me watching them - yet when we were digging a large trench for my runner beans yesterday, which is fairly near their own box, they took no notice whatsoever.
I hope they all realise I pose far less threat than the 4 jackdaws that visit througout the day attacking the feeders (clearly thay have received the message from Chris Packham that they can do whatever they like and get away with it)- we try scaring them away but they are such intelligent birds they just fly to the cherry tree and grin at us.

It's a wonderful piccie Delilah & as the others have said - I think you're very brave to take that photo, as in my case I would panic big time if a bird flew out at me. I couldn't cope with what Paul is doing now, having two sparrows flying around the room, the reason being that when I was about six, a sparrow flew into my face when I was outside playing in the garden - my screams for my Mum brought all the neighbours out as well. Now you know why I've never been to Trafalgar Square & the like, as all those pigeons are bigger still!

@ YorksherLass... that is a shame, though understandable. As a tiny child I was always in the garden capturing creatures.. we had a massive privet hedge and I used to pick up the stunning privet moth caterpillars.. as well as spiders, moths, insects, anything I could handle really. I love all small furry things (and large ones of course!) and birds.. frogs, toads and newts. Sadly we get grass snakes now, amazing creatures but they have eaten all our frogs despite having 2 wildlife ponds. So no more taddies although the newts are flourishing. I did capture a 3 footer a couple of years ago, managed to grab it whilst it was swimming round - all this stuff about grass snakes playing dead if you hold them is rubbish! It was hissing like a steam train and lunging at me (plus left a nasty ooze on me that took days to remove the stink from!) - we drove it to a sanctuary place with masses of water several miles away! Less keen on wasps but if they leave me alone I do the same to them! I do not mind what creature gets in my face but I do have one real fear.. I am positive there are werewolves about, especially in some of the Suffolk forests where the trees are those pine-type ones.. I know it sounds daft but I am sure there are werewolves in Rendlesham forest (plus in a wooded area very near to where I live) and what with the UFO business in Rendlesham... I stay in at night!!!

Hello everyone! Beautiful morning in Suffolk and both sets of parents busy bringing food :-) The Great tits are extremely noisy but I only took pics of the blues as I was aware of buzzards overhead and wanted to try to get pics of them (plus ensure they did not think my ducks would make a tasty breakfast!)

Not birdbox stuff.. but these 2 buzzards were having a fisticuffs way up high over our garden.. they were mere dots in the sky but my ducks saw them and were all watching, ready to race for cover should the birds descend! Used the zoom but this was the best I could get.. in 2nd pic both birds flying upside down.

Wonderful photos Delilah of both sets of birds, you're very lucky to have managed to get the photos of the buzzards fighting! Thanks also for telling me about yourself & how you can pick up (more or less) any living ctreature, I'm fine with frogs, toads, worms, but NOT spiders - I catch them in my spider catcher bought years ago, take them outside and ask them not to come back! Same with bees & wasps, as I don't like killing them. This bit you wrote:
I do have one real fear.. werewolves
Now that did make me but not for the reason you may think. At 14 years old, my friend & I put our long hair up, put makeup on & managed to get to see an X rated film (16 in those days). I'd read the book, so wanted to see the new film of it, which was "Dracula" starring Christopher Lee ... & I fell in love! Wrote off and received a personally signed autographed photo of him, which I still treasure to this day!

Oh yes YorksherLass.. yes, the Hammer Horror films that used to show on a Friday night back in the '60's.. my dad used to let me stay up late to watch (but then I needed someone to go upstairs with me afterwards ha!) and Christopher Lee could have bitten my neck any time he wanted! I was also somewhat in love with Peter Cushing, too!
As for temporary aging to get into an X-film.. well my 2 best friends and I did just the same - only ours was to watch Rosemary's Baby when it first showed. So there we were, all grown up with lipstick and eye shadow, high heels and hair piled up (I have the dvd and I still think it is a great film) - the problem came the following week when there was a U film showing (back in the days when the cinema only had one screen).. we three went along and tried to pay an honest half fare.. it was the same lady taking the money and she recognised us and said we could either speak to the manager about going to an X film or pay an adult fare and which was it to be! We chose the adult fare!
