Dare I say it? My females first bit of straw. I think it will be a long wait for her unless she stalls for a while! Pleased though

No that's fine Paul I wondered why it didn't open in the usual way, think I might have done it differently! A nest well it's a good start but we aren't into Feb yet so who knows! Been a lovely day but very cold.
Any news where you are?

She certainly is Karen but it's only a small piece and it could well go out again. Paul said some bad weather coming to the north, the wind is bitter here in Leicestershire so I'm hoping she will pace herself for a bit!

Ooh Kathy, how exciting for you. That is wonderful. Maybe she’ll just bring in a token gesture for now to stake her claim on the box. Brilliant. Sue

Yes, I think you are most probably right Sue, I'm pleased but long way to go yet and they always lead us into a false sense of security! Glad to read you have joined us and that there is some interest already. If it doesn't happen in the camera box for you this season I shall eat my hat! (if I wore one that is)

Hi Diane She's been in the box again today with some what looks like dog or cat hair. Mr BT came along for the ride so they are keeping the bond going. However, quieter today over all for that box. She has stopped roosting now.

Hair Kathy? Wow that’s a bit previous , she certainly is keen. Has no-one told her the nest needs to be built before hair to line it. Wish mine were that keen. Looking good for your starling box too. Fantastic. sue

Hi elle, yes it does more straw has gone in but she is removing it just as quick. I have been offline for a while as I had someone hack into my computer despite having good up to date protection. Took computer to be cleaned of malware and had a malware protection installed. Had to do this because someone had knowledge of one of my passwords. Therefore I had to change everything. Luckily they didn't manage to get through to my bank account. Husband says it's like having a policeman covering your front door but the one minute he goes to the loo a burglar pops in! a good analogy I thought! Anyway hopefully I will be okay now but a lot of trouble to go to. Will try and catch up with you all soon. and reply accordingly.

Bloody hell Kathy, That is awful! People really do have to much time on their hands Does your internet get pop ups alot? Only asking because back in 2014 I got viruses on my laptop off pop ups which I have now had blocked. Wasn't so much hacking me it did completely destroy my computer to the point it was never the same again. Luckily it was under insurance and it got "wrote off" and I got a brand new one. And that was just off viruses! Glad to have you back anyway Kathy

Oh Kathy that is really awful. Glad you’ve got things sorted now. These people really are the lowest, don’t care who they harm. Hope things go smoothly for you now. Sue

Thanks Paul & Sue for your kind words. Apparently my password was taken as I was doing a small transaction and this is how the evil git picked it up as I entered it for the site (wrong time wrong place). As my computer is also used for our business I was very concerned as you can imagine but it is difficult to be ahead of the game no matter what you do. Paul I have a lot of pop-ups so know how you feel; bad as that was at least you managed to get your computer replaced. We now have additional Malware protection and up to now all seems okay. I checked with Fasthosts our server and they assured me that these criminals have a long way to go before they can get access to Fasthost data but it was wise to change all passwords used and not use two the same. Problem there is I have to write them down so as to remember them and there you have another potential hazard!! I was also told by the techno dept of Curry's that the people who sell all this protection software also make the malicious software where they send out viruses to capture your data when you are online, how true that is I don't know but it's scary meanwhile a lesson for all internet users I think.

Oh Kathy so sorry to hear bout your computer being hacked, there really are some scumbags out there! Love your hubbys analogy, so true. Curry’s told us the same Kathy bout some anti virus software actually spreading it, so must be some truth init. Hope everything ok now, just keep an eye on your accounts for the foreseeable future just in case! On happier news, your birds seem to be very keen to get going Kathy icon_biggrin Yer never know Kathy you might be the first nest this year, woohooo!!! So excited 😆 Elle xx

That's awful about your computer being hacked, so I'm pleased that things are OK now though. I must admit that I'm paranoid about it happening to me, so have taken every precaution I can possibly take, different passwords etc. and nothing at all in my computer, on paper or online anywhere giving my online banking stuff.

My couple have been frantic round the box this morning probably because it's sunny. Female has brought in a long piece of straw and took it out again! Male is singing from the phone wire close by asserting territory so I'm almost certain this box will be occupied again this year when the time is right to get going. Elle & Diane thanks for your support I think the internet is such a big part of our lives now that we forget that it can be a place of crime too, nowhere seems to be sacred any more sadly. At least the birds don't have to worry about their data protection! ' A BLUE TIT'S FAVOURITE HOME' -34 CHICKS HAVE FLOWN FROM THIS NEST BOX

Looking good Kathy, I can't say my lot have a favourite box its different ones each year with having 9 knocking about Apart from my little sparrows of course this will be the 4th year if they nest again in this box looks likely at the moment with female roosting / daily visits by both. Have you ever had a nest in your lower wall box? Or as it always just been the higher one? I find it interesting if its only the higher one cause 90% my boxes are high under the eves the house and they are always my most popular. Oh and the tree box that is becoming a new regular despise a different box getting put there every year Going to leave the purple box in that spot now though no swapping around needed now thank god!

Paul in answer to your question only once in 15 years have we had a nest in lower box where one chick only fledged out of 8 we called him Crackers. Think this is due to two factors - height box is approx 8ft above ground level & the dominance of the birds in higher wall box.
I think it is best not to mess around with box and positions at this critical time unless one has too, so I agree leave well alone now.

I guess living in a bungalow has disadvantages then . Probably a good reason why my camera box is not as popular as other people’s. Nowhere to site a box higher, and think that’s why they choose boxes away from the property. Action has slowed here which worries me but will stay optimistic until season proper begins. Maybe have to move to a house for next year . Sue
