Just finished installing my new side view box. I replaced a 4 year old Handykam box which was looking a bit worse for wear. As a few of you have been posting pictures of your boxes I thought I would join in!. First up is my new side view box, now positioned under the shed eaves. This is my Robin watering can hidden in the ivy which has a camera installed but not connected. New camera ready log box I mounted low behind our fir tree in the hope two visiting Coal tits might be attracted to it. An open fronted Handykam box with camera again buried in the ivy in the hope of a Robins nest. New Starling camera box I built in the Autumn. Sadly up to now my annual resident male does not seem to like it, this could be the first time in 7 years with no starling nest 5 year old Handykam box that I call our Blue tit box with a 28mm entrance. It is located down the house side towards the front garden area. Occupied by blue tits this past 3 seasons. Has a male rooster as per last year so fingers crossed! My new RSPB Swift boxes that I modified and fitted with cameras last September. Just got to install the Swift call system I put together this week. I fitted closing doors that will be opened when the Swifts arrive to stop them being used by tits/sparrows. My House Martin artificial pair of sites. These have been occupied for the last 20 years! If you look closely there are two mud nests on the alarm box. The colony has grown from one pair to 20 pairs on our street since I erected these! The old great tit handykam box has been fitted with a 28mm plate. This and two cheap eBay boxes with 25mm plates will be erected in a moorland wood a mile away. Pleased to say that 3 boxes I put up 18 months ago were all occupied last summer! Finally my TV in the kitchen which displays the feed of 4 boxes from my DVR. I have purchased a 16 channel Hikvision DVR last year which when connected up will allow me to view all the swift boxes and other boxes if occupied. This is showing the new side view box (upper right), handykam blue it box with all the male rooster droppings (upper left), handykam open fronted box in the ivy (bottom left) and the new starling box (bottom right).

Great selection of boxes Ben! Lucky to have house martins too! Don't think you've ever spoke of them have you? Not that I have seen anyway. Best of luck with all the boxes

Cheers everybody! Unfortunately there are pros and cons of living high up on the Moorlands. Lots of great views, beautiful walks and snow scenes but fewer trees. This means there are lower densities of nesting birds but perveseley more magpie and sparrowhawk predators!.
Whilst there are years when we have had blue tits, Great tits, Robins , Blackbirds and Dunnocks nesting there are others that are sparse. I think this year will be one of the latter given how few birds are using our feeders this Winter.
I know I've never mentioned the Martins before. Dunno why but the site mostly caters for lover of Blue tits and camera boxes. The Martins have been a fixture since I erected the concrete double nest site in early 2000. Obviously too small to fit a camera in them but they often raise 2 - 3 broods a season. Once we had them feeding young into October! It is brilliant when they arrive as to me it truly signals Spring is here! The mature birds come first (April last year) and they quickly establish ownership of the sites they want. They seem to prefer the artificial sties as our neighbours put up some and these are always the first ot be claimed. The younger breeders then start to build using mud around the end of May.
Just wish I'd have put up the Swift boxes 20 years ago when we had a large colony in the neighbourhood. Might take a few years to attract some back..

WoW......your boxes are great, I would love those! are you using Poe ip cameras? Good luck with all your boxes Benn Hi Amanda, No, I use High Resolution CCD 700TVL Sony Effio cameras. As I have so many boxes the cost of switching over was too prohibitive, and I have 3 cables that run under a flagged area. I did consider Poe ip for the 4 Swift boxes but quickly dismissed the idea as Swifts prefer dark boxes and the complexity of have a NVR and a DVR to one TV was too much for my simple mind. My ideal set up would be cameras that could work with batteries and utilise the home wifi. The long cables would be a thing of the past. Capturing numerous streams via a NVR and viewing multi screens on any smart TV or Macbook or tablet would be the ultimate!

My goodness Ben how do you keep up All them boxes all them nests can we house swap Hi Natalie I would love having to keep up if all were occupied!!! In reality at the moment it looks like just the Blue Tit and Martins this season. I am hopeful of perhaps attracting Swifts but that might take several years.

No chance of any activity today, winter has returned with a bang up here this morning. Can just make out a flock of 15 Goldfinches in the tree ready to descend onto the feeders. I wish Goldfinches were box nesters!

Hi Benn....thats an amazing array of birdboxes....fantastic.
Really interested in your 16 channel HiKvision DVR....does your one have audio on any of the channels?
I was briefly looking into it last year, as I have the 4 channel HiKivison version, which is great, but wasn't aware at the time of purchase that it only comes with 1 audio channel. I wanted one with at least two for my two birdboxes....don't understand why they don't come with all channels with audio...?

I wanted one with at least two for my two birdboxes....don't understand why they don't come with all channels with audio...? Hi Greatbluehopeful I had a hikvision NVR, 4 channels and gave it to my brother as I wanted an 8 channel NVR. I bought an Annke NVR, which is a rebadged hikvision, so that may save you a few pennies! I think they do 16 channels. I use that purely for my cctv camera’s now. I only have one camera with audio and that works fine. My birdbox poe ip camera’s both worked fine with the audio too. My NVR is POE not bnc connections. I have not been able to get the birdbox camera’s to won’t with the Hik-connect app, which is a shame. I bought all my stuff from Amazon. I also use a synology NAS, which has 2 camera licenses. (More optional at a cost though) I much prefer the Synology NAS for my nest box camera’s. It is great for motion detect alerts, live views. It will just play all the motion detects on after the other, email snapshots. It is easier to use on a tablet, I also can view on my tv, using my amazon fire stick. It has a lot more versatility that an NVR / DVR. You get audio on the cameras, and you can use it for much more than just recording / motion detect.....it is a server basically. i will take a screen grab and show you the Synology NAS i hope this helps

Me too Sue, you was the first person which came to mind Anyway, how’s things going at yours Benn? Elle xx Fine thanks Elle. Lots of Goldfinches, Starlings, Sparrows and Jackdaws on the feeders with Wood pigeons hoovering up anything that falls. We have the occasional appearance of a pair of Great, blue and Coal tits. The odd Robin and Chaffinch and Blackbird too. Our Dunnocks seem to have disappeared but I reckon the daily visit of a Sparrowhawk put paid to them. Oh and the pesky Magpies are always skulking about. We had our first Pheasant yesterday which I posted in the Garden visitor section. As for the boxes zero interest in any apart from our blue tit rooster. Bit early up these parts to be honest.
