Karen isn't it lovely to see them out and about still being cared for. Hopefully one of them will choose your box next year.

Thanks Paul, sammi, It was lovely to see, with not being privy to see what was happening all this time. It would seem he has remained faithful to Speck, his first mate, like you said Paul, so I am guessing the other two females he brought to the tree box but didnt choose it are perhaps struggling like Chico did but I am so glad these chicks are ok.

Thanks, it took ages to get a decent pic, they are so camouflaged against the tree, move around all the time. Hopefully they will be coming down to the feeders soon.

Such lovely pics of 'your' bluetit family Karen. Our garden is full of the sounds of chicks but too well camouflaged to spot. I do hope they survive this dreadful weather.🤞

Hello all, thought I would pop back to see how things are. Boulder and Speck amongst others continue to visit to feed with there babies, Boulder roosts every night unless it is boiling hot, he has done so since nesting season! Be interesting to see how long he continues to do so. Its lovely having him. I am all ready for next year, just need to pop the new box up to replace the tree box(which Boulder is occupying) then all good to go! Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer. Karen x

Hi Karen, how lovely you are still seeing Boulder and Speck and their babies, that is really lovely. I never see a blue tit in my garden from one nesting season to the next , presumably because not enough tall trees. However I do see and hear them in the trees nearby. Not on here that much out of season so have a good Summer and ‘see’ you soon. Sue

Karen, thanks for your update on Boulder & Speck & you are still seeing them, so carry on enjoying them. You are well prepared for next year, so hope it will be a good one for you. I check the web site everyday all year, don't log in if nothing is happening - but the year before last, Paul was on late August or September talking about his roosters & what he was doing to prepare for the next season. I answered his posts (as Scribbles as I was then) & we were the only ones on all through the Winter.

Thanks yorkshirelass, I will keep popping in to see what folks are doing, I hope Boulder continues to roost through the Autumn and winter, he seems to like the current tree box, so I hope when I swap it for the new one he isnt too disgruntled.

Morning all. I have just put up the new tree box. Had a right faff getting the camera to focus, but got there in the end. Boulder hasnt roosted for 5 days so I thought I would switch now. When peering inside the old box I was confronted by dozens of earwigs and I mean dozens, I hope that didnt stop Boulder from roosting . On the camera I only saw the odd one but once opening the lid they came out from everywhere. YUK.

Wonderful news Karen that you managed to put your new box up while Boulder was on vacation somewhere! However, I went cold when I read about all those earwigs you found in your old box. Like you, I hate them & think that's because as a nipper, I thought they tried to get into my ears - nobody told me that - I just assumed it from their name.

Me too lol, my dad told me they get in your ears at night!! What do you think though, do you think it could of been why Boulder stopped roosting?

Karen - if he thought the same as the two of us, then yes! Seriously though, perhaps he didn't fancy having them crawling all over him while he slept? Let's hope he goes to your new box for roosting soon, when he gets back from his holiday.

Awe I hope so, hopefully this box wont get any in, the last one was a bit damp and they are attracted to dark damp places so I think this is why it had so many in. It really was the stuff of nightmares! I feel bad for Boulder now, I hope he comes and sees his new residence.

Wont have anything to do with a few earwigs Karen, Its middle of summer, They don't use boxes to roost during summer its mid 20's outside warm and lots of places to roost. I haven't had no rooster myself in weeks now, Only came back when we had the bad rain weather really. If he is knocking about come Autumn I am sure he will be back September/October when the leaves are falling off the trees etc.

Cheers Paul, have you had any problems with earwigs, not had it before but this is first one I have had in a tree. I was hoping it was just the fact it is summer and he will be back when the weather turns but just wasnt sure. Hows things at your end Paul, I have seen the Sparrows have done well again, any Swifts nesting?

The garden has been quiet for a while apart from the usual visitors, the Blue tits havnt been around as much and I do miss there calls and jjust seeing them, but I was woken up this morning by the chatter of Blue tits, a mixture of young and adults, I counted roughly 12, so thrilled to see them all together following each other. It is the most I have ever seen in one go. Hope they all stay safe. Bye for now everyone.

Let's hope he goes to your new box for roosting soon, when he gets back from his holiday. Seeing you talking about earwigs, we had a lot around recently just had to move something (outside like plant pot) and they were crawling all around. Our lone b'tit had another night away then was back. I'm still hoping it won't be frightened away when the scaffolding goes up this month.
