Sounds as though things are going really well at yours Beechnut, so that’s lovely. Does seem a strange year with so few nests yet being built. I so hope things do pick up or the numbers of these little birds will dwindle quickly . Fingers crossed it is just a temporary det back. Looking forward to seeing pics of your chicks which are looking likely to be the first on the forum. Sue

It's sad that so many on here are not getting GT and BT nests in their boxes this year - we can only hope that when the weather settles down things might change.
My GT is still sitting on her 8 eggs (must think of some names!) which should be hatching somewhere around 24th April.
The next thing I need to do is get some mini mealworms. I had a look yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices were so reasonable (LivefoodsDirect), I was expecting at least a doubling in price after all the problems over the last two or three years. Anyway I'll leave that until next week - I've sorted out my adapted feeder, which hasn't been used for 3 years and hope that they will use it when the time comes.

Yes it is very disappointing, really love watching the process, this year it would have been 4th year in a row so cant really complain I have been very fortunate in having them chose my box so often. Will get my fix from the others on the forum.

Karen it’s not a good feeling seeing them going off in another direction with nesting material Seems like a few of us are in same situation the biggest shock is Malcom’s empty nest boxes We will have to enjoy Sue’s Paul Pete’s Benn Johns and any others this year. 🤔😊

Thanks everyone, I think its a no go this year, I have seen her taking material somewhere, they still come and feed so will make sure they have waxworms etc when chicks come.

Hi Karen It sounds like it's a strange one indeed. I hope the weather brings them back into nesting mode. Mine have built a bit of a nest and then nothing

I truly hope this week of more settled weather will get them back and building quickly for you Karen. Such a strange and frustrating year. Can’t remember one quite like this before. I will keep everything crossed for you. Sue

Quick update, although not the one I wanted to share, despite building starting on the 2nd, there has been very little action since, odd visit through the day, messing with the moss taking it out etc but no more building as such since, so not sure if they have chosen a different site this year or if they are just biding their time, I have had nests in previous years not start till end of April so I haven't totally lost hope, the weather is picking up so will soon find out if they come back and carry on

Turn the volume down on this. Not sure if there is a new male on the block but certainly neither one was the female with the feather mite eyes. The one on the outside just was peering in. They are still around at least but the nest is still the same.

A few developments here, the starlings I think have 4 eggs now could be 5 but it looks like that is it going by the behaviour, I only ever manage to see two at a time because of the camera angle but hopefully in 2 weeks or so we may get a glimpse of some chicks! Here is what I took yesterday: My male bluetit has managed to get a second female and is only now showing her nest boxes so those of you without nests don't lose hope just yet! she seems quite interested in another one of mine, again without a camera so it will be a record for me if I have 2 as I have only ever had one at a time or none, the first female has been collecting my rabbit hair I put out for her to line her nest, just wish I had a camera in that box as the nest must be so cosy!

Oh Sammi, that is not what we want to hear. Hopefully the warmer weather that we’ve been promised will kick start them into action Sue

Well things are on hold here. No progress at all A couple of visits but they look confused The male picks up a bit of straw and throws it about whist looking up at the entrance and then the female pops in and just looks about and then leaves

Thanks everyone - I read those instructions but still couldn't get the photo displayed on my posting, only the URL(?) but it seems as if you all could see it, so I'll have to settle with that. The long lay-off hasn't done me any good at all. (I'm 83 now and forgetting more things than I remember! ) I can certainly understand what you mean Beechnut being of a certain age too. I had trouble remembering how to upload a picture. I'm sure they change things just to frustrate us. On my screen the direct link to use is just below the url one. The url works well though so I would stick with that. I find videos easier to share as I keep forgetting how to use post images I would love to have Great tits nesting but somehow they pass my boxes by.

The long lay-off hasn't done me any good at all. (I'm 83 now and forgetting more things than I remember! ) Well, I think you are doing really well Beechnut. I am a few years younger than you and have great difficulty with anything technical so am sure I will be useless at 83. Technology going too fast for people like us that didn’t grow up with it. The URL works so don’t worry about anything else. Looking forward to all your updates. Sue
