Hi Matt. I'm just trying to catch up with everyone's posts. Were our nests matching on dates? Ours are on day21 if you count hatching as day 1 or 20 if you count the day after hatching as day 1 (I never know )They are up to the hole today and looking like maybe tomorrow now unless some go early evening. A couple though are still small.

Sad news to report something attempted to get at them last night and whilst it didn't succeed it damaged the nest enough to cause the parents to abandon them, I found them stone cold and gone this morning, there was 5.

Good question Ann - what is the best guess these days, 20 days or so? If so then perhaps tomorrow. They don't look super ready yet tho - at least they haven't spent a lot of time looking out of the holes yet.

One or two have taken a peak but Mum and Dad are still feeding in the box still.

They are still there even after we left them for about 2 hours and I resisted blocking the hole Sue I left my old camcorder set up on a tripod aimed at the box just in case. Of course the battery had run out when I got back but nothing was missed

Oh I hope they wait until you are there, but as you say it is usually sod’s law! How about blocking up the exit just for tomorrow, put some mealworms in with them - they should be ok. I AM JOKING of course. . Really really hoping you are there to wave them off. Sue ps they are looking soooooo good.

First Blue Tit hatched this afternoon at 2:30pm. Mum wants to replenish some much needed Calcium but a nuisance feather seems to be annoying her!

Here is a not very good photo (try and count the chicks!). I have the app (XMEye) on both my phone and the ipad but can't find where the photos go so I've ended up taking a photo of the Ipad using my phone! Well, better than nothing.

Well good news, I was premature in writing off the chicks and blaming Mrs Bluetit for abandoning them. She did come back that night (was away for at least 3 hours) and both parents are now feeding them. The seventh egg seems to have hatched (though I wouldn't expect that chick to make it in the end). Both parents are steadfastly ignoring the mealworms I am putting out (the blackbirds are enjoying them, so not wasted). But they seem to be bringing in enough food. Lovely day here at last.

The remaining 7 are doing great, the parents are simply amazing, putting their chicks needs before anything else. They are getting very vocal now and investigating their home and siblings, love this stage in their development.

Hi Benn Those great tit chicks look beautiful. It's my dream to one day have them nest in one if my boxes So pleased they're using the mealworms too.
