This one was home alone for a while and then with one last look over his shoulder he took the plunge. We had just made it back to see him go. He didn't fly far but managed a successful landing in a nearby privet. So that is it for another season. The sparrows teased us again but have just left a partial nest. I'll have yo turn my attention and cameras onto the hedgehog if he shows up again. I'll be keeping an eye on ongoing nests on here to ease the empty nest syndrome. Good luck to all the newly fledged. Good luck to all you lovely people too

Latest update.... 21 days since hatching and we have 6 Great Tits seemingly reluctant to fledge One did leave early on Friday morning but the others are still sitting tight! The Blue tits have hatched but I have no idea how many. We are awaiting a delivery of mini mealworms for them.

Look whos back and using the nest box from last year Picture is abit crap didn't want to disturb her, Waiting for her to leave the box to see if she is sitting on eggs or just building the nest. If no eggs are laid i'll rig the IP camera that was on the wren nest when she starts laying Just waiting for her to leave the nest now

7 have fledged over the last hour or so and so that just leaves the two smaller ones. I did see one first flight and he went straight up into a hazel tree with precision flying.

So sad that this has happened. When we watch nature I guess it’s inevitable that at times we have to see the horrid things as well as the good. So sorry for you. Hopefully you are right and they have had a successful brood elsewhere. Sue

Thanks guys it was quite a shock as it was all going well but I guess the extra activity of the parents gave the nest away, they were still feeding the night before at 9.30pm and it was getting dark, they feed quite late compared to other birds, I think this may have been their second brood as I am pretty sure I could hear young robins nearby at the start of the egg laying/brooding and it looks like the father was busy feeding those at the time so I guess all is not lost for the pair.

I think this is her second brood Matt, Maybe she completed the nest and had it ready for when her first brood was all done with. Mine went missing for a month last year after having the first brood you see! Fingers crossed by I think egg laying will begin for you
