Albeit a very wet day here Iβm sat watching the busy activity of the young blue tits and great tits on the feeders. So lovely to see, long may they stay around my garden π
these are the first great tit fledging, Iβm really hoping there will be a second brood if itβs not to late π€π»βοΈ

Day 17 and still 9 chicks He is the most amazing bird ever, despite torrential rain and cold he has managed to keep them all alive so far. he does look wretched though.

This is today's photo. Definitely only 4 gapes, and the one on the bottom right is looking very still....

You can see the very small one at the top - that was the first one to die. I think, though not sure, that the parents may have taken the dead chicks out of the nest. PS my hand is not in the nest, it is just a reflection when taking the photo!

On Thursday (that is 10 days after hatching), there were 4 big and strong and 3 much smaller. You won't be surprised to hear that over the past few days, the number feeding has reduced to 4 and it may even be 3. Their wings now have feathers and their bodies are beginning to feather. I will try and post a few photos... Another week to go before they fledge and as usual they are ignoring my offerings of mealworms (but the sparrows and blackbirds - and even a jackdaw - have enjoyed them).

OK thanks Paul - very interesting. Definitely not in any hurry this bird, that's for sure! A no show again today, and she hasn't even popped back to the nest once since she laid that third egg.

Don't worry Matt, Mine did that this year for the first brood. She actually missed two days before laying her 4th and final egg!

Well the robin did not return this morning to lay another egg, and in fact hasn't been seen at all since leaving after laying egg number three yesterday morning. Any thoughts from those with robin experience?

AMAZING stuff Matt - so great to get such quirky goings on with the wrens. Brilliant pics as ever! And that BT fledging vid was lovely. So pleased it's all happening at yours.
