Hi Pete You can have a laugh on me for not being into the finer detail of camera quality🫢🤣 Good news you have two boxes having visits you have lots to look forward to Lovely pictures 😊 I’ve been watching for any activity but not seen any hoping I will see it today I’m expecting next week to be the start here 🤞🏻☘️ Thanks for allowing me the privilege of a chuckle It was something about the way you said it! I'm crossing fingers for everyone at the moment. And I'm busy checking out the neighbouring gardens to make sure there's no competition! I'm so fed up with the cold. Also I realised today that last year my robins had already kicked off nesting in my homemade box in the ivy. This year I've seen them doing the same courting behaviour all around the garden, but my homemade box is looking distinctly empty, so I'm guessing I might not be getting the trail cam out of its box this season. Shame, as the robin pics I got last year were some of my favourites.

I had problems with wifi connectivity initially with my camera. I vastly improved matters by running an outdoor mains cable from my outdoor socket over to a waterproof box near the nest box location (the type you can buy in DIY stores, normally used for water features or paddling pools ). I plugged a 4-way extension into the end of the outdoor cable in the waterproof box - I then used a pair of powerline adapters, one next to my home router and the other plugged into the 4-way extension in the waterproof box. Then I actually put a small cheap wifi router in the waterproof box, too (!), configured as an access point, connected to my home router via the powerline pair. I could also use the 4-way extension to power the DC supply for the camera itself.
So basically I have powerline adapter, small router and camera DC supply all housed in the waterproof box. The camera is then close enough to the access point to get a much stronger connection. Seems to work very well. Occasionally the powerline adapter and/or router need a reboot as they seem to fall over in a heap from time to time if I'm streaming stuff constantly.

Great light in that side view box Pete, which is always the most significant perceptual quality thing. However, that date and time look very different and I have noticed a lot of variation online with these cams. Is that via software?
Activity looks very promising!

Yeah, I've heard that too but this is definitely a stream or at least data thing. It went on its own this time. I think it could be the result of WIFI signal getting low on occasion. I plan to get past some of these niggles and limitations with a Raspberry Pi project of my own next season. Hopefully the supply issues are sorted by then!

Well Ann, I think I have jinxed things. Since my reply to you a few days ago I have had no visits at all ☹️. Told myself not to get too excited this early but they had been so frequent I guess I had begun to ‘hope’. The last few visits the female (I am assuming) had become obsessed with the top of the box. She kept flying up out of sight of the camera and tapping away, drop to the floor then go up and tap again. Maybe something there she just wasn’t happy with . Keeping fingers crossed they will return. Anything new at yours Ann? Don’t think the forecast cold snap will help much with things. Sue

LOL you might be right about the poor daylight, but I'm still not quite convinced! Wishing you the very best of luck with visits. Still early days yet. Looked out the window this morning and saw my BT pair were having a look in my side-view tree box.... definitely a double visit with the male waiting inside and then quickly swapping with the female.. I'm reminded how the camera in this box does have a really good picture

Good you have a pair visiting your box I would be over the moon if I had the same in my camera box Colours look ok maybe the dark cloud isn’t helping on a brighter day it will look stronger As you can gather I’m not into the technical bit 🫢🤣🤗

A couple of lengthy double visits to the main tree box yesterday around midday. Lots of entrance hole pecking and general fussing. Stil yet to be convinced of the image quality of the new camera - to my eyes it doesn't seem a patch on the old one.

Is it a crackly buzzy sound? My old camera used to do that sometimes and I realised it was when the wind was blowing in a certain direction - I decided it was being caused by a resulting draught blowing onto the camera mic in a specific way.

Yep - rooster back again last night. Caught it waking & leaving the box early this morning - not sure but it looked a lot like last year's male, but can't be sure.

We have quite a number of Crows that land in our tree where my box is situated, it has never put them off nesting, but they dont like them as I hear them doing the alarm call sound around nesting time whenever Crows appear.

I've noticed suddenly that all the suet has gone from the feeder. It was half full for about two weeks and has then gone in a few days. They are on the roof of the house en masse, they are hanging out on all the flagstone areas of garden and they are in the apple tree where previously coal and blues were congregating.
How scared are prospecting Tits? Are reflective objects an old wives tale and aren't smaller birds just as bothered by them? Similarly, don't plastic owls scare off all birds?
In better news, a Bullfinch is now a regular garden visitor!

Hmm, after all last night's excitement, no roosting BT so far tonight - it's just gone 8pm - so I guess last night was either a little experiment, or the BT is choosing various different places to kip at this early point in the season?

Lovely to see the rooster Pete. Definitely a good sign for things ahead, it looks as though he/she hasnt been roosting long going by the lack of poo, unless its a female who do tend to clean up after themselves. LOL good detective work there, observing the poop levels! Very good point.

Yes I am Ann 🤞. Most days there is a brief visit. Sometimes by a pair and other times just a single bird. Trying not to get too hopeful as we know how picky these birds can be, but the regular visits are lovely to see. Sue

Hi Sue It’s a single hole box I’m going to be happy that they have a nest at all If it was to do with me I’d love the camera box Hoping the cold snap will be just a blink of an eye and pass quickly so the birds can get on with the nest building Are you still getting visits

Exciting things going on at your Ann. Wonder which box will be chosen?! My concrete one was always a favourite with birds but too heavy to hang on balcony, hence I had a wooden one made that copied the design of my concrete one 🤞. Is your a stone box a one hole or three? Loving the fact that bit more happening for people now, just hope the cold spell they’ve been mentioning for next week doesn’t interfere with visits etc. Looking forward to the next few weeks. Sue
